Max Verstappen gifts a lion to Mick Schumacher

Max Verstappen and Mick Schumacher go back a long way. When Jos Verstappen used to race in Formula 1, he brought baby Max to some of the races. Michael Schumacher did the same and would bring his son Mick to the paddock. That way both the second generation drivers developed a good friendship over the years and it led to this particular moment.

Every year, F1 conducts a Secret Santa where most of the grid except Lewis Hamilton takes part in a gifting session. All the drivers pick out a random name chit from a box and proceed to get a gift for the driver whose name that they get. It is a fun activity where the chits are taken out a few races before and the gifts are given to the drivers during the Abu Dhabi race weekend.

It’s actually a very wholesome and entertaining experience watching the drivers unwrap their gifts. Max Verstappen had gotten Mick Schumacher so he decided to adopt a Lion in Mick’s name and paid for it’s care in South Africa. Mick Schumacher was pretty excited when he got to know that he could go and possibly pet his new lion whenever he wanted to.

It was very thoughtful of Max Verstappen to do a deed of this caliber. Instead of buying something stupid, the Dutch driver got Mick Schumacher something that he will cherish for the rest of his life. It was a very nice gesture by the 2 time world champion who received a Charles Theme F1 game CD from none other that Ferrari’s F1 hotshot Charles Leclerc.
