Daniil Medvedev

World no.4 Daniil Medvedev has been in the form of his life since the past few months. Medvedev, who posted the third-most hard court wins during the 2020 season behind only Novak Djokovic and his quarterfinal opponent Andrey Rublev, has a lot of self-belief that comes with a 20-match winning streak.

Should he extend that to 21 at AO ’21, he’ll become the third Russian man to win a Grand Slam behind Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin, who each picked up one of their two majors in Melbourne.

Since November, Medvedev has won 100% of his matches including three big titles. He won the Paris Masters and ATP Finals to finish the 2020 season before leading Russia to a ATP Cup win to kick-off the 2021 season.

Daniil Medvedev has now defeated every current top 10 player in mere 4 months

Interestingly, Medvedev has defeated ALL of the top 10 players(except Federer who hasn’t played) since November 2020. He has defeated Zverev and Schwartzman 3 times in the last 4 months while getting the better of others once. He has now 12 consecutive top 10 wins!

He started with defeating Diego Schwartzman in the QF at Paris Masters following up with a 3-set win over Alexander Zverev in the final.

In the ATP Finals, he got the better of Schwartzman, Zverev and Novak Djokovic in the group stage matches. In the semi-final, he defeated world no.2 Rafael Nadal before toppling Dominic Thiem in the final.

Medvedev’s 2021 campaign started with the ATP Cup where he defeated Matteo Berrettini, Alexander Zverev and Diego Schwartzman. And his final punch was against Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semi-final of the Australian Open 2021.

Out of the top 10, the only player Medvedev is yet to defeat in his golden run is Roger Federer. The Swiss maestro is out of action for more than a year and Medvedev said that he will be looking forward to play him. The Swiss is set to make a return at Doha next month.

Daniil Medvedev will play Novak Djokovic in the Australian Open 2021 final on Sunday. He will be gunning for his first grand slam title in Melbourne.
