Thomas Tuchel remains confident about Kai Havertz as he tries out new false nine position tactic

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is confident that German international Kai Havertz will be able to flourish at the club. Since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival Kai Havertz has been gradually eased into the team. Moreover the attacking midfielder has been played as a false nine, a position in which he seems to do better.

The blues purchased Kai Havertz after he had a splendid season at Bayer Leverkusen for a record fee for the club. However Former manager Frank Lampard couldn’t get the best out of him as a midfielder.

Thomas Tuchel has tried out Kai Havertz as a false nine in matches against Everton and Leeds United and he seems to do a lot better now. Although he missed a host of chances against Leeds United, he got into crucial positions.

The goals have been hard to come by for Thomas Tuchel and his men but they have been solid at the back. Chelsea will be facing Atletico Madrid next in the UEFA Champions League in a bid to secure a quarter finals berth.


“He’s comfortable in finishing, he’s strong in finishing. He can clearly play as a No 9, he can play as a half-striker or as a winger. These are his positions and today we used him as a number nine and I’m happy. It’s a position where he feels comfortable and I trust him in this position.’
