Manchester United are as far away from their glory days as one can imagine. The Red Devils have suffered one of the most embarrassing seasons, both domestically and in Europe. Current manager Erik ten Hag led the team to an all-time low finish in the Premier League at eighth while they also got knocked out in the group stages of the Champions League.

As Ten Hag’s fate remains undecided, only one man can put an end to his ‘misery’ – Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, the INEOS chairman finds himself in a fix, as reports state that managerial target Thomas Tuchel has turned down United’s approach. Following United’s triumph against Manchester City in the FA Cup final, news had come out that the club were going to sack Ten Hag irrespective of the result.

However, more than two weeks have passed since the final and Ten Hag’s fate still remains in limbo! Prominent transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the former Bayern Munich manager wants a break from coaching and will not be looking at managerial positions for now.

However, the list of potential Man United targets do not end there, as Mauricio Pochettino, Kieran McKenna and Gareth Southgate have all been linked to the club.

Fans react to Thomas Tuchel ‘turning down’ the Man United job

Managing Manchester United Football Club is no easy task. It so often happens to be the most difficult position a seasoned manager has taken charge of, and rarely ends on a positive note. A quick look at the past managerial appointments and tenures makes clear just how high the stakes are at Old Trafford.

A fan commented that Tuchel made the best decision of his managerial career by turning down the United job. Another hit back at the same, claiming that Ten Hag is a much better tactician and manager than Tuchel. Many sided with Ten Hag and criticized the club for their treatment of the manager. Rival fans also sided with Ten Hag, given his ‘poor’ record in the League as well as in Europe.

A supporter opined that Ten Hag should be given one more year at the club and if he doesn’t sort out things by then, a move away would be ideal. It remains to be seen whether United will eventually find a replacement as the Eruros progress or will opt to put their trust once again on the Dutchman. Ten Hag has ‘salvaged’ his season with a FA Cup trophy in the final game of the season. But will it be enough? Only time will tell.
