Dinesh Karthik, the former skipper of Kolkata Knight Riders Franchise in IPL is one of the most underrated middle order batsman who has explosive ability of finishing matches in crucial situation. His 29 runs of 8 balls was something phenomenal any finisher can pull of in such situation where the men in blue thought things have got out of their hands in the finals of Nidahas Trophy against Bangladesh. But one of the forgotten fact by the present cricket fanatics is that the 36 year-old is a classic opening batsman while donning the white jersey.

Dinesh Karthik made his debut to the International Test cricket in November 3, 2004 against Australia. The test career of Dinesh Karthik reached it’s peak in India’s tour of England- 2007 where he ended up being the highest run scorer for India which was instrumental for India’s first win in England after 21 years.

Karthik was vested with the responsibility of opening for India in the series. Initially Karthik was dismissed for 5 runs in the first innings but made a strong comeback in the next innings scoring valuable 60 for the team in their mission to chase down a target of 380 which was later interrupted by rain and the first match ended up in draw. Followingly in the second match which was held in Trent Bridge, Karthik continued his quality form by making a foundational 77 in the first innings to help the middle order continue to post a mammoth total of 481. England surrendered to the Indian bowling attack in the second innings and India conquered the second match chasing a mere 73 runs to lead the series by 1-0.

In the final test match which was held in Ovals Karthik again initiated the Indian exploitation with bat scoring a monumental 91 which help India score an unassailable total of 664 in the first innings, again rain had the remaining resulting the match to be drawn. Hence India won the England Test tour by 1-0 and Karthik was the highest run scorer making a total of 263 runs at an average of 43.83.
