Tiger Woods and Justin Timberlake‘s plan to convert the New Picture House Cinema into a luxury sports bar called T-Squared Social has faced significant backlash from locals, despite receiving planning permission from Fife Council in St. Andrews.

The proposed T-Squared Social, a joint venture between Woods, Timberlake, and Nexus Luxury Collection, aims to transform the historic cinema into an upscale bar. It will feature golf simulators, duckpin bowling, darts, and premium sports viewing, while also maintaining at least one cinema screen to continue showing films.

Fife Council stated that Nexus Luxury, the real estate company involving Tiger Woods and Timberlake as shareholders, would “protect and enhance the character and appearance of the conservation area.”

This went on to spark backlash on the internet and from locals. One user wrote “Sounds like that’s gonna be a drunken party” on X, while another commented “I love Tiger, but the jokes basically write themselves on this one lmao.“

Meanwhile, the T-Squared Social is expected to create between 40 and 45 job opportunities and is anticipated to open in 2025, subject to further planning approvals.

While the current owners of the New Picture House Cinema supported the redevelopment, stating that the venue currently operates at under 10% occupancy and is no longer viable as a standalone cinema, a petition launched by locals protesting the move garnered over 12,000 signatures.

However, Woods and Timberlake originally wanted to do something out of their passion with the project. The American golfer earlier opened up on their vision in an interview with CBS.

Justin and I thought it would be cool to create a place that combines our favorite things and brings people together to just have a great time. We always knew we wanted to do something together, and NEXUS gave us the platform to bring our idea to life.
