On Tuesday, Tiger Woods fielded several questions ahead of the Genesis Invitational. During this, he dropped a one-word response regarding his potential return to the 2026 Masters Tournament, which saw fans on social media going wild.

This week, the Genesis Invitational returns to Riviera Country Club. Last year, the event was shifted to the Torrey Pines Course due to the Los Angeles Wildfires. This event is a significant one for Woods as he serves as the tournament host.

This year he will not be playing in this event due to his health issues. However, he could potentially return to the Masters Tournament in April at the Augusta National Golf Course.

When a reporter asked him whether playing in the first major of the year was off the table, the former World No.1 simply said, “No.

Woods has not played competitive golf since July 2024. He took part in the Open Championship at the Royal Troon but ended up missing the cut.

While he did play later that year at the PNC Championship alongside his son, Charlie Woods, the 50-year-old has not taken part in any official PGA Tour events since then.

He was supposed to make his first start of the 2025 season at the Genesis Invitational, but withdrew his name following the passing of his mother, Kultida Woods.

As he missed this event, he then started to prepare for the Masters Tournament. Unfortunately, he ended up rupturing his Achilles tendon, which forced him to undergo surgery and miss the major event.

Woods did not appear in a single event last year. In October, he underwent another back surgery and replaced his disc.

Since then, the golfer has been seen at the TGL, supporting his team, Jupiter Links GC and working behind the scenes as one of the player-directors of the PGA Tour. Recently, he claimed to be unsure about a timeline regarding his return.

As speculations regarding his future continue to rise, his one-word response regarding the Masters Tournament has raised some eyebrows.

The 15-time major champion did compete in the 2024 event and made the cut. While he earned a last-place finish after 4 rounds, he set a new record for the most consecutive cuts at this event with 24, breaking the previous record of 23 held by Fred Couples and Gary Player.

Golf fans go into a frenzy following Tiger Woods’ reply regarding potential return to Masters Tournament

In the past few years, this topic has come up many times. Woods, who has played in 8 Ryder Cups with Team USA, spoke about this and claimed he has not made any decision regarding it yet.

They have asked me for my input on it, and I haven’t made my decision yet. I’m trying to figure out what we’re trying to do with our tour. That’s been driving me hours upon hours every day, and trying to figure out if I can actually do our team, Team USA and our players and everyone that’s going to be involved in the Ryder Cup, if I can do it justice with my time.

Tiger Woods told the reporters

Last year, Keegan Bradley was the captain of Team USA. He succeeded Zach Johnson as the captain following Team USA’s loss in Rome in 2023.

Bradley and his team had home advantage in 2025. They did not have the best of starts and found themselves chasing Team Europe once again. Despite a strong fightback on Sunday, they ended up losing the tournament and suffered back-to-back defeats.

The 2027 event will be played at Adare Manor in Ireland. While Europe is yet to confirm their captaincy plans for the next tournament, Luke Donald is in contention for a third stint. Only time will tell who will lead the teams out in the next tournament.
