Just a month before the 2025 Masters Tournament, Tiger Woods has suffered a major injury setback. The 5-time Masters champion has undergone a surgery on his ruptured Achilles and will be for a while.

The 49-year-old golfer was looking to make another comeback from surgery this year. After missing the cut at the 2024 Open Championship at the Royal Troon, Woods underwent back surgery, which sidelined him for months.

After missing out on, the Hero World Challenge, an event which he hosts at his course in Albany, Bahamas, Woods did play golf in December. He would team up with his son Charlie Woods to participate in the 2024 PNC Championship. Team Woods once again suffered a heartbreaking defeat in this event as they lost in the playoff round against Bernhard Langer and his son Jason.

Woods was then scheduled to play in the Genesis Invitational, another event which he hosts. However, after the passing of his mother Kultida Woods, the golfer withdrew from the event. He did later mentioned that he planned on playing some bigger events this year.

That plan now seems to be in jeopardy. While trying to ramp up his practice and training, the golfer ruptured his Achilles. He was thus required to undergo a surgery to repair them.

On Tuesday, Woods issued a statement regarding this. He informed that he was back home now and was on the road to recovery. However, he did not provide any timeline regarding his potential return.

As I began to ramp up my own training and practice at home, I felt a sharp pain in my left Achilles, which was deemed to be ruptured. This morning, Dr. Charlton Stucken of Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida performed a minimally-invasive Achilles tendon repair for a ruptured tendon… I am back home now and plan to focus on my recovery and rehab, thank you for all the support.

Tiger Woods said as a part of his statement

A normal timeline for return from an Achilles injury is typically around 6-12 months. This means that Woods will not only miss the Masters Tournament, he is also likely to miss the other three major championships as well.

Last year, Woods participated in all 4 of them. His only cut though came at the Masters, where he eventually finished in last place after carding scores of 82 and 77 over the weekend.

Brandel Chamblee urges Tiger Woods to reach out to veteran golfer following Achilles injury

Tiger Woods‘ Achilles injury has left the golfing world stunned once again. As the 15-time major champion now gets on the road to recovery, golf analyst Brandel Chamblee has urged him to reach to a veteran golfer following this latest setback.

While discussing about his injury on Golf Central, Chamblee urged Woods to reach out Bernhard Langer. The analyst pointed out that the German international suffered a similar injury at the start of 2024. He though came back to win the Charles Schwab Cup Championship.

He should reach out to Bernard Langer who tore his Achilles last year at the beginning of the year, had this remarkable recovery and then at the end of the year made the putt and won the Charles Schwab Cup at the end of the year on the PGA Tour Champions.

Another big question is whether this is the end of Tiger Woods’ career on the PGA Tour? Following the horrific car crash in 2021, the golf great has made less appearances and has mostly focused on the major championships and the signature events.

In December this year, Woods will turn 50, making him eligible for the PGA Tour Champions. Given his physical challenges, he could be allowed to use golf carts instead of walking down the stretch on all 18 holes.

Woods has been part of the PGA Tour since 1996. Since then, he has broken several records and other accomplishments. At the moment, he is tied for 1st place in the number of wins on the PGA Tour with 82, along with Sam Snead. If he does manage to somehow pull the rabbit out of the hat and win again on the tour, that would see him create another record.

For now, Woods’ attention will be on his recovery. Apart from that, he will likely be heavily involved in the merger talks regarding the PGA Tour and PIF.
