Tim Anderson called it a day on his MLB career. On Monday, the former Chicago White Sox star announced his retirement from baseball after 10 seasons in the major league. Fans on social media were left stunned with this decision.

Anderson was selected as the No.17 pick in the 2013 MLB draft by the White Sox. After spending some time in the minor leagues, he was promoted to the major league in June 2016.

During his debut, the shortstop hit a double in his first at-bat. He ended the year with a .283 batting average while hitting 9 home runs in 99 games for the AL Central team.

Before the start of the 2017 season, he signed a 6-year deal with them. He would soon establish himself as one of the main stars of the team.

In 2019, Anderson won the AL Batting champion title while hitting .335 in 123 games. He smashed 18 home runs and had 56 RBIs in this campaign.

His most memorable moment came during the first Field of Dreams game. Almost 5 years ago on August 12, 2021, he hit a 2-run walk-off home run against the New York Yankees to give the White Sox a huge 9-8 victory.

The American international also earned 2 All-Star nominations in 2021 and 2022. However, he had been on a major slump since 2023. That year, he hit just 1 home run in 123 games.

After the team declined him a club option, he became a free agent in December 2023. Before the 2024 Spring Training, he joined the Miami Marlins on 1-year $5 million deal.

This move did not work out well for him as he played in just 65 games and failed to hit a home run. He was released from the team in July that year.

Anderson then joined the Los Angeles Angels on a minor-league deal. Once again, he was unable to make a huge impact and was designated for assignment after just 31 games. On Monday, he announced his retirement after spending a decade in the major league.

While Anderson had some big moments, there were some which even left a huge mark on him. In 2019, he was involved in a benches clearing incident against the Kansas City Royals, after he hit a home run against Brad Keller.

The pitcher would throw at him which led to the benches being cleared. While he was handed a 5-game suspension, Anderson was suspended for 1-game for his use of foul language.

In 2022 he took offense to a “Jackie” comment from Josh Donaldson during a game against the Yankees. Donaldson claimed he was referring to Anderson’s comment in an interview in 2019 with Sports Illustrated where he described himself feeling as “today’s Jackie Robinson.”

The one moment which he would like to forget was his brawl with Jose Ramirez in August 2023. After the Cleveland Guardians star reached 2nd base, he had some verbal exchange with Anderson, who threw his gloves away.

Ramirez would land a punch which led to Guardians’ broadcaster Tom Hamilton screaming “down goes Anderson.” Both stars received huge suspensions following this incident.

The White Sox will hold a special place in his heart as he spend 8 of his 10 years in the MLB with them. During this ride, he experienced both the highs and lows with the team. If given the chance, he would love to come back and sign a 1-day contract and officially retire as a White Sox player.

They gave me a shot, and they stuck by my side. So it’s only right that I get to come back and retire as a White Sox for sure.

Tim Anderson told the Chicago media in a zoom call

Speaking of the White Sox, they are currently having a major turnaround. After some disappointing recent campaigns, including one where they lost over 120 games, the Chicago-based side currently sits top of the AL Central with a 61-56 record, 3.5 games ahead of the Minnesota Twins and the Detroit Tigers.
