4-time Wimbledon semifinalist and former British No. 1 Tim Henman is astounded by Carlos Alcaraz’s incredible achievements at just 21 years of age. He believes Alcaraz has will have an immensely successful career and credits the Spaniard’s accomplished team for his successes so far.
Carlos Alcaraz, in addition to being the youngest man to become World No. 1, became the youngest man to win Grand Slam titles on all three surfaces by winning the French Open earlier this year, breaking a record that was held by his compatriot and idol Rafael Nadal for over 15 years.
To have won four Slams on three different surfaces by the age of 21 is just mind-boggling. With his game, how sound he is physically, technically and mentality, I think he will keep winning. He has such a good team around him and that’s vital at this age. It’s going to be so exciting to see how many majors he wins over the next decade and you could say the same thing about Sinner.Tim Henman told Tennis365
Henman, who has fared well on all surfaces himself by reaching the semifinals at Wimbledon, the French Open and the US Open, is curious to see how far Carlos Alcaraz and his rival, Jannik Sinner, can go in their journeys that have only recently begun.
Alcaraz will be back in NYC in a week to try and reclaim the US Open title, which was his first Grand Slam.
Carlos Alcaraz can breathe a sigh of relief as Alexander Zverev bows out of Cincinnati
Carlos Alcaraz’s surprising loss to Gael Monfils in the second round of Cincinnati put him in a difficult position as it took away his commanding lead over Alexander Zverev on the leaderboard as well as the chance to overtake Novak Djokovic to claim the World No. 2 position.
This meant he would surely face either Novak Djokovic or Jannik Sinner before the final at the US Open. However, he can now be assured that things will not go from bad to worse as Sinner knocked Zverev out of the Cincinnati Open in the semifinal.
Zverev had to win the title to overtake the young Spaniard and take his position in the top 3, but with his loss, the top four seeds for the US Open are confirmed – Jannik Sinner, Novak Djokovic, Carlos Alcaraz, and Alexander Zverev, in that order.
