Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner have been dominating so much on the tour that, since the 2024 season, they have won a combined 26 trophies from 35 finals. Those titles also include the eight Majors.
This year, while Alcaraz made three Major finals, Sinner played the title clashes of all four Majors, winning at the Australian Open and Wimbledon by defeating Alexander Zverev and Alcaraz, respectively. The Spaniard defended his French Open crown and won his second US Open title, both by beating the four-time Grand Slam champion.
Amidst their complete dominance on the tour, former player Tim Henman named the player who he thinks can break the Alcaraz-Sinner dominance. That player is his compatriot, Jack Draper.
Can anyone really join the Alcaraz-Sinner conversation? Right now, I don’t see it. But a year is a long time in life, and certainly in sports. And the one person I’d like to see join that conversation is Jack Draper, because there’s no doubt that in the first half of 2025, he would have been part of it, given how he beat Alcaraz at Indian Wells and reached the final in Madrid. He was playing exceptional tennis. So we have to be patient.
Tim Henman said (H/T: Australian Open website)
The 23-year-old reached three finals this year. He lost the Qatar Open and the Madrid Open to Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud, respectively, while at Indian Wells, he defeated Holger Rune.
In Grand Slam events, the British ace reached just one semifinal. Last year, he made the last four of the US Open but lost in straight sets to Sinner. Alcaraz holds a 4-2 head-to-head lead over Draper, while against Sinner, the World No.10 holds a 1-1 head-to-head tie.
Alex Corretja on who can hurt Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner
While for Tim Henman, Jack Draper is the favorite to challenge Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, as per fellow retired player, Alex Corretja, there are three players who can “hurt” the World No.1 and the World No.2. They are: Draper, Ben Shelton, and Joao Fonseca.

Like who? We’ll see how Jack Draper has recovered, as he hasn’t competed for a long time, and I think that, when he’s fit, he’ll be one of the most difficult players to beat. We’ll see if Ben Shelton gradually finds his tennis level and also his stability. What will happen with [Joao] Fonseca?
Alex Corretja told Eurosport Spain
Corretja said Fonseca has a lot of potential, and if he is mentally and physically prepared, he would be ready to compete with the best. Fonseca took home two ATP titles this year.
After bursting onto the scene by clinching the 2024 Next Gen ATP Finals, the 19-year-old lifted his career’s first title by defeating home favorite Francisco Cerundolo in the Argentina Open final before winning his career’s first ATP 500 title at the Swiss Indoors by going past Alejandro Davidovich Fokina.
Fonseca also made his Grand Slam main draw debut at the Australian Open and ended up featuring in the main draw of the remaining three Majors. The teenager has never faced Alcaraz or Sinner in official events but met the World No.1 in the Miami exhibition during this year’s off-season.
Shelton lifted his career’s first Big Title at the Canadian Open this year by going past Karen Khachanov. The American ace has made two Grand Slam semifinals: at the 2023 US Open and in this year’s Australian Open.
This year, apart from the Canadian Open, Shelton also reached the final of the Munich Open but failed to go past Alexander Zverev. Alcaraz holds a 3-0 head-to-head lead over the World No.9, while against Sinner, he trails 1-8.
