New Zealand defeated India in the second Test match of the three-match Test series in Pune and registered a huge feat in cricket history. They were the first touring side to beat India in a Test series at home in 12 years. India last lost a home Test series in 2012 against England. Veteran Kiwi pacer, Tim Southee, talked about how big the series win is for the Black Caps.

He brought up the fact that India have not lost 18 consecutive Test series at home and hence is definitely a tough place for every side to visit. Tim Southee called India and Australia as the two of the toughest places to play cricket for a touring side.

Yeah, I think you just look at the history. What is it, 12 years that someone’s been able to do and 18 series or whatever it is. It’s a very, very tough place to come. I think if you look at it from my perspective and the cricket I’ve played in the past however many years, I think you look at India and Australia are the two places that are probably the most difficult to tour. Both the conditions, the quality of the opposition and how good they are at home makes it a tough place to tour.

New Zealand won the ICC World Test Championship 2021 final in Southampton against India and Southee was a part of the XI. He called the series win in India at par with the WTC final win and termed them as two of the greatest achievements in his cricketing career.

Team India to play on a rank turner in Mumbai against New Zealand

The Kiwis have already beaten India on a seaming pitch in Bengaluru and on a slow turner in Pune. Now, as per reports, India have requested a rank turner in the third Test in Mumbai starting from November 1. They want to avoid a humiliating Test series whitewash at home which they have not suffered since February 2000.

Indian batters had failed against Mitchell Santner on a slow turner pitch in Pune but are still prepared to play on a rank turner which might turn from the first ball. In recent times, the Indian batters have been very poor against the spinners in conditions that assist them.

Team India gave 19 of their 20 wickets in the match in Pune to spinners and out of them 13 were scalped by Mitchell Santner. They will hope to come back strongly in the final Test match before heading for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25 in Australia.
