The New York Knicks ended a 53-year championship drought on June 13, defeating the San Antonio Spurs in Game 5 of the NBA Finals at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio to capture their first NBA title since 1973.
A star-studded crowd was on hand for the historic moment, including actor Timothée Chalamet, Ben Stiller, Spike Lee, Tracy Morgan, John Turturro, and Sydney Sweeney. Prince Harry also made a surprise appearance before tipoff as celebrities flocked to Texas to witness a potential title-clinching game.
The Knicks entered Game 5 holding a 3-1 series lead after an unforgettable 107-106 comeback victory in Game 4 at Madison Square Garden on June 10. New York rallied from a 29-point deficit before securing the win on an OG Anunoby tip-in at the buzzer, setting the stage for the championship finale.
When the final buzzer sounded in San Antonio, the celebration immediately spilled onto the court. Chalamet, one of the franchise’s most passionate supporters, joined the festivities and summed up the moment with a memorable remark. He said, “Way rather this than the Oscars, c’mon baby. Knicks are champions, baby!”
Spike Lee, a longtime Knicks superfan, was also seen celebrating on the floor, embracing players, team personnel, and fellow supporters as the franchise secured its long-awaited title. Stiller joined the postgame festivities as well.
The actor was photographed on the court after the game and was later spotted carrying a whiteboard belonging to Knicks head coach Mike Brown during the celebrations. The victory completed the series for New York and delivered the organization’s first NBA championship since 1973.
Prince Harry makes a surprise appearance in San Antonio for the NBA Finals Game 5
Prince Harry drew attention before Game 5 of the NBA Finals when he arrived at Frost Bank Center alongside U.S. Army veteran JP Lane.
According to PEOPLE, the Duke of Sussex was already in San Antonio for the Warrior Games, which run from June 13 through June 20. A source told the outlet that NBA Commissioner Adam Silver invited Harry to attend the Finals game.

Lane is scheduled to compete in the Invictus Games in the United Kingdom next year. Harry has previously credited him with inspiring the creation of the international sporting competition for wounded, injured and sick military personnel.
Harry’s appearance came on the same day members of the British royal family attended Trooping the Colour in London. King Charles, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Catherine, Princess of Wales, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis took part in the annual ceremony.
The Duke of Sussex has attended several major sporting events since relocating to the United States in 2020, including the NBA All Star Game earlier this year with Meghan Markle.
Game 5 ultimately ended with the Knicks defeating the Spurs to secure the 2026 NBA championship and their first league title in 53 years.
