Bo Nix has tested the nerves of the Denver Broncos fans nearly every week. Nix hit rock bottom in pass completion, throwing just 48.6% of his attempts in Week 9 against the Houston Texans. He threw two touchdowns but also conceded 1 interception, averaged 4.7 yards per throw, and finished with a passer rating of below 70.

Nix’s numbers improved during the midweek game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He completed 57.1% of his pass attempts for 150 yards but threw 2 interceptions and logged an abysmal 54.2 passer rating.

The offense managed only 10 first downs, outnumbered by their 11 penalties. If not for the Broncos’ top-three defense in the red zone and on third downs, the outcome could have been very different.

The Broncos’ defense, led by Nik Bonitto and Zach Allen, sacked the Raiders quarterback Geno Smith 5 times and forced two turnovers. The game ended in a 10-7 snooze fest, improving the Broncos’ record to 8-2.

It is clear that Nix is a significant factor contributing to the Broncos’ lackluster offense. He has thrown an interception in 6 consecutive games, which ranks him second on the list, behind Smith, and ties him with Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa and Titans rookie Cam Ward.

Despite the apparent decline in his consistency, a former Bronco has backed Nix for helping the team stay in the driver’s seat for the AFC number 1 seed. TJ Ward, who won a Super Bowl during his stint in Mile High, claimed Nix is the reason the Broncos are 8-2.

I like Bo, he’s not perfect. What young quarterback is? If you say, give me a young quarterback right now, there’s not too many guys you would take over Bo.

Bo Nix took responsibility for the poor performance in the Raiders game

Several quarterbacks have faced second-year jitters, including the Texans’ CJ Stroud and the Commanders’ Jayden Daniels. Nix could also be grouped into this category on a personal level. Without the Broncos’ defense, they might have found themselves struggling among teams in the league’s lower tier.

The Raiders are a prime example. Pete Carroll‘s team dropped to 2-7 but could have easily secured a win if their offense had performed better. It’s an alarming trend for Nix and the Broncos, raising questions about how they’ll fare against stronger teams like the Chiefs and the Chargers.

Nix didn’t mince his words while taking the blame for the lackluster offense.

It starts with me. I got to be better, and the rest of the guys will follow along. We got to find some juice somewhere. We got to find something, especially against a good defense like that. There are plays to be had, we just got to find them.

The Broncos are set to host the Kansas City Chiefs at Mile High in Week 11, marking a thrilling matchup. After enduring an eight-year (16-game) winless streak against the Chiefs, the Denver franchise finally broke that spell in October 2023, showcasing its determination and resilience.

Nix is 1-1 in two games. In January 2025, he threw 321 yards and 4 touchdowns to shutout a Patrick Mahomes-less Chiefs 38-0.
