Elaine Thompson rewrote the Olympics record to take home the gold medal in the women’s 100m event at the Tokyo Olympics. Thompson bested the fastest woman in history, Shelly Anne Fraser-Pryce to clinch the gold medal in what was a Jamaican clean sweep. Sherika Jackson clocked her personal best to clinch the bronze medal.

The race was off to a fiery start with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce being the fastest off the blocks and was looking like she would win the 100m event. However, Thompson- Herah came out of nowhere as she took the lead after the 50m mark, finishing in the first place.

The athletics world is mesmerised by the Jamaicans’ performance, with Thompson, in particular, being hailed for a stunning performance. The Jamaican’s career has been peppered with injuries ever since her historic double gold medals at the Rio Olympics. But the star athlete is the least bothered about them as she continues to script history.

The medal was Thompson- Herah’s fourth at the Summer Games having clinched gold medals in the 100m and 200m event before adding a silver medal to her tally in the relay event.

Not many expected Thompson-Herah to clinch the gold medal with the likes of Fraser-Pryce in the ranks. But the seasoned athlete has pulled off the improbable and is now a strong contender of repeating her Rio heroics in the 200m event.
