Indian men's 4x400m relay team
The Indian men’s 4x400m relay team has qualified for the Tokyo Olympics. The team which features Noah Nirmal Tom, Mohammed Anas Yahiya, Arokia Rajiv and Amoj Jacob sealed an Olympic spot by the virtue of their Road to Tokyo rankings. They were placed 13th in the ranking as they made the cut in just the nick of time.
The team had clocked 3:01.89 in the heats of the National inter-State championships to lift themselves to 13th place on the Road to Tokyo. The Indian mixed 4x400m relay team has already qualified for the Tokyo Olympics after reaching the final during the 2019 World Championships in Doha.
Dutee Chand secures Olympic qualification for 100m and 200m races
Ace Indian sprinter Dutee Chand has secured a berth at the Tokyo Olympics owing to her World Rankings. While 22 spots were available in the 100m event, only 15 spots were up for grabs in 200m via World Rankings route. Dutee, who is placed 44th in the 100m rankings and 51st in 200m event, qualified for both.
The Indian sprint ace broke her own 100m national record, clocking 11.7 seconds at the Indian Grand Prix 4 in Patiala last week. The effort almost landed her an Olympic berth as she missed the automatic Olympic qualification time by only 0.02 seconds. On the other hand, Hima Das has been ruled out of the Summer Games due to an injury.
The AFI was hopeful of the women’s 4x100m relay team qualifying for the upcoming Olympics in Tokyo. But the team which featured Dutee along with Hima Das failed to impress at the Indian Grand Prix 4 as they finished 20th on the Road to Tokyo. Hima’s injury only complicated things more for them as they missed the inter-state championships.
