PM Modi Asks Everyone to Cheer for India at Tokyo Olympics, Remembers Milkha Singh on Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked about the Indian athletes headed to Tokyo Olympics which are now only a month away. PM Modi urged all Indian to cheer on and motivate the Indian athletes going to the Olympics to represent the country. He talked about the struggles of the Indian athletes, and their dedication towards achieving their dreams.

He talked about Neha Goyal, who is a part of the Indian Women’s Hockey team which will be going to the Olympics, and are favourites to win a medal. He also said that Deepika Kumari was the only Indian woman to represent India in archery at the Olympics.

He mentioned Pravin Jadhav, who comes from a poor background, but is now going to his first Olympics, making the country proud.

Modi talked about the dedication of the Indian sportspeople going to represent India at the Tokyo Olympics. India is predicted to win the most medals it ever has at the Olympics this year. He said, “When talent, dedication, determination and sportsman spirit come together, then you get a champion. In our country, athletes come out of small towns, villages, and districts. All our Olympic-bound athletes can be seen as an inspiration.”

He remembered the legendary Milkha Singh who sadly passed away on 18th June 2021. “We are talking about Tokyo Olympics, so how can one forget about such a legendary athlete like Milkha Singh. Some days back, we lost Milkha Singh as he lost his battle to COVID-19. When he was in the hospital, I had a chance to talk to him. I told him that he led our contingent in the 1964 Tokyo Olympics and that is why you need to talk to our contingent who would head to the Tokyo Olympics this year. I told him that he needs to motivate them,” said PM Modi during during his address.

Finally he said, “You can send good wishes to our athletes by posting messages on social media using the hashtag #Cheer4India. If you want to do something more innovative, then you can do that also. If you get an idea of how we can motivate our athletes together as a country, then you send that to me as well. We will together support our Olympic-bound contingent.”
