Karate was one of the major attractions at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 as it was one of the four sports that were included in this Olympics only. The host country has the right to add four sports in every Olympics event and Japan picked Karate as one of them.

It is still not a part of permanent Olympic sport, still, the 2020 Tokyo Olympics featured eight events of Karate both for Men’s and Women’s. Two disciplines of Karate were featured in Tokyo, Kumite was the first of them which consisted of three-three categories for men and Women’s and Kata was the second one which consisted of one event for both.

There were 82 Karatekas from 36 countries fighting for the medal at Tokyo. Let’s have a look at which country won the most medals in karate at the Tokyo Olympics.

Japan topped the table with most Medals in Karate at the Tokyo Olympics

The host nation Japan performed exceptionally well in Karate at the Tokyo Olympics. Ryo Kiyuna from Japan started the medal run for Japan that too by winning Gold Medal in the Men’s Kata competition.

He gave a flawless performance and defeated Damian Quintero from Spain in the final match to win the first Gold Medal for Japan in Karate on their home turn. In women’s Kata, Japanese Karateka, Kiyuo Shimizu also performed on a level above the others.

Although she fell short in the final and faced a loss against Sandra Sanchez but she clinched Silver Medal for Japan at Tokyo Olympics. The +75 Kg Men’s Kumite participant, Ryutaro Araga also secured a Bronze Medal for Japan in Karate. With these medals became the country that won the most medals in Karate.

Spain secured second place with the most medals in Karate at the Tokyo Olympics

The Spanish Karate team also claimed multiple medals in Karate at the Tokyo Olympics. Sandra Sanchez led the table with a Gold Medal in the women’s Kumite event and Damian Quintero supported her with a Silver Medal in the Men’s Kumite event.

Egypt and Italy finished in third place with the most medals in Karate in Tokyo

The Egyptian Karateka, Feryal Abdelaziz also wrote her name in the books of the history by winning only the Gold Medal of Egypt at the Tokyo Olympics in women’s +61 Kg Kumite event. Giana Farouk also contributed her share by winning a Bronze Medal in the women’s -61 Kg Kumite event.

The Italian Karateka, Luigi Busa also becomes successful in clinching Gold Medal for Italy in the -75 Kg Men’s Kumite category. Viviana Bottaro also added more to her country’s glory by winning Bronze Medal in the women’s Kata event.
