Earlier this year, Tom Aspinall created a record as the longest interim champion, later becoming the undisputed UFC heavyweight champion. His title run was filled by brutal knockouts, defeating top heavyweights with remarkable ease, showcasing his skill set. At just 32 years old, Aspinall remains in his physical prime, capable of dominating the UFC heavyweight division for several years.
Andy Aspinall, Tom’s father, grew deeply concerned about the time wasted while waiting endlessly for the anticipated Jon Jones fight. He expressed disappointment regarding UFC’s underwhelming announcement, which declared Aspinall champion without a significant statement or celebratory declaration. As his son’s coach, Andy recently discussed Aspinall’s long-term fighting career.
I would love him to have a very highly paid boxing match. The money is there and I don’t see why somebody as talented as Tom shouldn’t have a piece of that money. The boxers are getting hundred times more. The UFC ain’t paying that type of money. He’s one of the best in doing what he does and not getting paid enough and it’s very dangerous.

Aspinall began his martial arts journey with Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling, later incorporating boxing training to improve overall striking. In 2016, he joined the Fury boxing camp, scoring a first-round knockout in his only professional boxing bout ever recorded. In a viral video alongside Tyson Fury’s brother Tommy Fury, Aspinall had mentioned that he switched to boxing after struggling financially.

After that boxing stint, he returned to MMA and fought in Cage Warriors. Soon after, he signed with UFC in 2020, where he made a rapid and impressive rise. His elite movement and devastating knockout power make him a legitimate future candidate for a successful boxing crossover. But before all that, he’s currently scheduled for his first UFC heavyweight title defense later this year.
UK veteran gives prediction on Tom Aspinall’s next fight
Following Jon Jones’ retirement, Tom Aspinall has officially begun his reign as UFC heavyweight champion, promising activity and absolute dominance. He has already defeated elite contenders including Curtis Blaydes, Sergei Pavlovich, and Alexander Volkov. Very few fighters can realistically challenge Aspinall’s position at the heavyweight throne, considering his technical mastery.

One top challenger remains Ciryl Gane, whose fight with Aspinall headlines UFC 321 this October in an anticipated heavyweight showdown. Ahead of the fight, the odds are in favor of Aspinall, who chose to fight in Abu Dhabi instead of Las Vegas. In a recent interview, fellow countryman and UFC veteran Michael Bisping gave the prediction and also made a surprising comparison.
Ciryl Gane is an interesting one because out of all of the heavyweights, he’s probably the most athletic, he’s probably the only man that can match Tom in terms of movement, in fact, he’s probably more athletic and lighter on the feet than Aspinall. Tom’s gigantic as well, he’s big and light on his feet, he can move…he can grapple, he can do it all… I heavily, heavily lean towards Tom Aspinall in this fight.

Bisping became the first fighter from the United Kingdom to capture a UFC championship, inspiring many British mixed martial artists in the process. After his retirement, Bisping consistently supported fellow UK fighters, proudly representing their success and offering advice from years of valuable experience.
He campaigned strongly for Tom Aspinall’s title shot when UFC refused to book him against Jon Jones despite public demand. His latest comments, possibly influenced by patriotic bias, received backlash from fans who disagreed with his perspective.
