The New England Patriots has stepped in their new rejuvenating phase with rookie quarterback Drake Maye in another attempt to replace Tom Brady’s legacy. Despite their first attempt with Mac Jones concluding on a disastrous note, the franchise is optimistic this time with significant change in the coaching staff.
Succeeding the winningest quarterback in NFL history is the dream of almost every young aspiring quarterback. But it appears the No. 3 overall pick got the golden opportunity to receive advice from the legend himself upon how he may succeed.
During a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, the former Patriots quarterback showered high praise on Maye. He revealed the advice he lent to the young quarterback, who is making his debut in the upcoming season–which is also going to be Brady’s debut year in broadcasting.
I’m very fortunate to be around him, and I like him a lot. I’ve heard great things about him. But his opportunity is going to be really what he makes of it, and how he wants to develop it, and how he wants to attack his profession, like we all do. It’s not where you’re at when you’re 22, it’s who you’re around when you’re 22.Tom Brady said
However, the Patriots haven’t yet declared Maye as the franchise quarterback, as they ought to launch the rookie slowly into the glamour of NFL. He is mentioned behind Jacoby Brissett on the depth chart for the training camp. Regardless, if the North Carolina product embraces the words of Brady, building a name for himself wouldn’t be that tough for him.
Drake Maye makes a strong impression in Patriots training camp
The rookie quarterback is already making buzz with his progress in the training camp. While the Patriots are taking time to name their starting quarterback, they are analyzing Maye’s development, which has been remarkable considering the fact he is the youngest quarterback in the league.
Maye himself acknowledged his progress in the training camp, saying he knows what he is doing. However, head coach Jerod Mayo had claimed previously that Maye still has a lot of work to do.
Maye also shares the advantage of being a 6’4” tall quarterback, which is the same height as Tom Brady, as it helps him look straight into the eyes of his teammates during a huddle and also make the right play in perfect coordination.
