In his legendary 23-year career in the NFL, Tom Brady played many great games. But there’s one he considers the greatest and feels nostalgic about even today.
On the eve of February 6, 2017, the legendary quarterback led his team to their ninth Super Bowl appearance against the Atlanta Falcons for Super Bowl LI. Till the third quarter, the Falcons commanded the field and didn’t allow the Patriots to score past three points, while leading at 28. Their victory seemed inevitable and all of the Patriots fans were losing their patience.
But as they say, a game isn’t truly decided until the final play, and that’s exactly what happened to New England. With just 2 minutes and 12 seconds left in the third quarter, the 15-time Pro Bowler and the Patriots constructed the most remarkable comeback by scoring 25 consecutive points, resulting in a tie with the Falcons.
As the game proceeded into overtime, Brady led the team on a 75-yard drive that ended with running back James White, scoring the game-winning touchdown and the championship title of Super Bowl LI by a 34-28 victory. The former NFL quarterback earned his fourth Super Bowl MVP title and completed 43 of 62 passes for 466 yards and two touchdowns.
Tom Brady reflects on historic Super Bowl LI comeback against Falcons
During his appearance at Fanatics Fest in New York City this weekend, the seven-time Super Bowl champion revisited his emotions from that night holding the Vince Lombardi trophy for the fifth time in his career. While labeling all his Super Bowl victories special, Brady admitted that the greatest one was indeed against the Falcons in 2017.
I’d say, they’re like your children. They’re all special for different reasons. And I think they all had different significance. I’d say the greatest game I was ever a part of was the one where we just beat Atlanta. Sometimes, even the next day, I remember I turned the tape on… I’ve watched that game ever since I go ‘Holy s**t.’Tom Brady responded when asked about his favorite ring of all six
Talking about that night of February 6, Brady revealed that he couldn’t believe they won after staying put with three points until the late third quarterback. But it does bring him happiness that they were able to stage such a historic comeback that night.
