Patrick Mahomes has faced the first major injury of his career, which came nine years after he first set foot in the league as an intriguing prospect out of Texas Tech. Three Super Bowl wins, three Super Bowl MVPs, two league MVPs, and countless other awards later, he is about to go through the most difficult phase of his career.
If there could be more insult to injury, that would have been in the form of his Kansas City Chiefs missing the playoffs, which was not a direct result of that ACL tear.
The QB and particularly his offensive unit have been underwhelming, leading many to think that the franchise needs to rethink its strategy. But none of that works without their superstar signal caller leading the line.
The only thing you can do is focus on what’s ahead of you and not look back. And just say, OK, this is part of what my career is going to be. And a lot of people have gone through it and a lot of people have overcome it. You’ve just got to put as much diligence into the rehab process.

The seven-time Super Bowl champion believes the player touted to be the one to surpass him in the GOAT debate must keep his focus on what is important right now and for the future. Tom Brady knows it will be difficult for Patrick Mahomes to maintain his mindset, as he should have been leading his team to the playoffs instead of being out injured for almost a year.
Tom Brady reiterates the need to commit during rehab
As someone who has experience of being in the same position as Patrick Mahomes is currently, Tom Brady went on to remind listeners of SiriusXM’s Let’s Go! podcast what was critical.

I always feel like the faster you rehab, the faster you can get back to practicing the sport that you know you love… But that requires an all-out commitment, and it’s the same commitment that the great professional athletes make to be great at their profession. When you go through the rehab process, you need that same level of focus and determination.
Kevin Patra quoted Tom Brady
The FOX Sports broadcaster believes the commitment will enable the Chiefs QB to defeat his recovery timeline, much like what Bengals superstar Joe Burrow managed to do with his toe surgery.
After all, not only does Mahomes’ future depend on how he keeps his focus on proper rehab and recovery, but the Chiefs’ future is also at stake. Among all the parallels between the two multiple Super Bowl-winning quarterbacks, what should motivate the 30-year-old is how Brady returned from his injury to hoist 4 more Vince Lombardi trophies.
Ex-Super Bowl champion lashes at Chiefs for not protecting Patrick Mahomes
After the injury, the focus has shifted back to the Kansas City Chiefs and what they will do with their new reality. Other than Travis Kelce‘s future, a former Super Bowl champion believes the franchise should take a look at itself.
They have taken the greatness of Patrick Mahomes for granted… They have not protected the franchise, which is Patrick Mahomes.
Chris Canty said on First Take
Canty claimed that over the last three years, Patrick Mahomes has absorbed more hits on drop-backs than any other QB in the league. That is squarely on the Chiefs, and they should take this time to figure out how to stop that from repeating.
"They have taken the greatness of Patrick Mahomes for granted. … They have not protected the franchise which is Patrick Mahomes."

On top of it, the former D-lineman also claimed that he and others are waiting to see just how bad the team will be without their otherworldly QB. That should give an idea of what the top brass needs to do going forward.
