Tom Brady wants NFL to take hits on WRs’ knees out after Chris Godwin ACL injury
Chris Godwin and Tom Brady
Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ game against the New Orleans Saints was a complete disaster for the team. Tom Brady was shutout for the third time in his career by the Saints’ defense. Tampa Bay lost 9-0 to the Saints. This matchup upset the Buccaneer players a lot, but not as much as seeing WR Chris Godwin go down with an injury.
Tom Brady feels WRs should not be hit on the knees
Tampa Bay star WR Chris Godwin suffered an injury that tore his ACL and MCL. This injury keeps him out for the remainder of the regular season. This happened when the Buccs receiver was hit low on his knees against The Saints’ game last Sunday. Tom Brady during his Let’s Go! podcast this week on SiriusXM NFL Radio said that wide receivers should not be hit on the knees. He feels that hits like the one Godwin suffered really impact guys’ careers.
Tom Brady has his say
Brady said, “I’ve seen that hit too many times where a defenseless pass catcher is in the process of catching the ball and he’s hit by the defender”. And a lot of defenders would say, ‘Well, we can’t hit him in the head anymore.’ Well, the point is, you can’t hit anybody in the head anymore. You can’t hit anyone in the knees anymore except for receivers. Which doesn’t make any sense to me.
You can’t hit a defensive lineman in the knees, you can’t hit a punter in the knees, you can’t hit a quarterback in the knees, you can’t hit a DB in the knees except for allowing hits on defenseless receivers. It needs to be addressed and really thought out”.

Wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald agrees with Brady
The former Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald agrees with what Tom Brady has to say. He also has the same concerns as the Buccs QB. Fitzgerald said that he used to say to the defender to hit him high – ‘Hit me up high. I’ll pay your fine.’ “The head trauma and things that come along with it, they affect you later on in life.
A blown ACL or a ruptured Achilles tendon, those things right there will end your career on the spot. And so, it’s a very unfortunate part of the game trying to be more cautious and conscientious of guy’s heads and lowering the aim point, but it has definitely put the lower extremities in a much more compromising position,” he added.
“It’s part of the sport, which makes it difficult. I know every sport has its challenges with physical injuries. Football is a demolition derby”, concluded Brady.
