Roger Federer
Basel, a beautiful town in Switzerland, is known for a host of special things. This includes the Headquarters of some of the most important international organizations. This small town has also produced one of the greatest tennis players of all time. His name is Roger Federer.
Past month, he announced his retirement. It was an emotional moment for everyone. Emotions outpour in the 2022 edition of the Laver Cup. Roger’s tears overwhelmed the whole world.
Roger Brenwald, the director of the ATP 500, wanted to replay the same for Roger Federer in Basel. However, the twenty-time grand slam winner is in no mood to play in another tournament and attend an event in his honor.
“I tried to digest everything that happened lately. The celebration at my home in Basel will have a very special meaning and it is now too soon for me after London. I have so many incredible memories at home during all these years and I want the tournament to continue to be one of the best stops on the ATP Tour,” the Swiss national said in an interview given to a magazine.
Particularly considering that the Swiss intended to compete in the “Swiss Indoors” before calling it quits on his tennis career and attending the Laver Cup in London. It was surprising to see him turning down this opportunity.
Roger Federer’s tryst with the Swiss Indoors
The Swiss Indoors is one of the most important events in the tennis calendar. It is an ATP 500 tournament. It is played on indoor hard courts between October 24 and 30 at Basel.
Roger Federer has won ten titles here which is a record in itself. He is also the current champion. This event was last played in 2019. But due to the pandemic, this event had to be postponed.
This year it was going to be special for all Swiss as they would have paid their tribute to their beloved star. It looks like they have to wait for another year and may have to organize the event in 2023.
