In 2024, when everyone thought Novak Djokovic would win his historic 25th Grand Slam title, he finished the season without any title on the ATP Tour. Along with Djokovic’s slump in form, another member of the Big 3 Rafael Nadal, following his long battles with injuries, finally bid farewell to tennis.
But the two youngsters, Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner made headlines, for winning all four Grand Slam singles titles. Sinner started with his victory at the Australian Open and later the US Open, while Alcaraz bagged the Wimbledon and French Open.
In women’s tennis, Iga Swiatek dominated, especially on clay during the summer. Though she struggled a bit after clinching the bronze medal, she broke several records with her fifth Grand Slam title at the French Open.
Check out the three records that seemed almost unbreakable but were set this season.
Carlos Alcaraz became the youngest player to win Majors on all surface
In June this year, Carlos Alcaraz reached his first French Open final but had a strong opponent in the form of Alexander Zverev. Alcaraz overcame Jannik Sinner in five sets in the semifinals to continue his quest but he knew Zverev, who had eased past 14-time French Open winner Rafael Nadal in the first round, could deny him the title.

Alcaraz played back-to-back five-setters and won and with his victory, he broke Nadal’s record. Nadal became the first member of the Big 3 to win on all surfaces when he lifted the 2009 Australian Open.
The King of Clay was 22 years and seven months old when he achieved this, but compatriot Alcaraz did the same at the age of 21 years and 36 days. Alcaraz won his first Major at the 2022 US Open, followed by his victory over Novak Djokovic in the 2023 Wimbledon final. The youngster would complete the Career Grand Slam if he wins the Australian Open.
Iga Swiatek is the youngest woman in the Open Era to win four French Open singles titles
Iga Swiatek has become a force to be reckoned with on clay just like her idol Rafael Nadal. She won her first French Open in 2020, but back then no one probably had any idea that she would complete a hattrick of the French Open.

Swiatek won her second Major on clay in 2022 and went on to clinch the title in 2023 and 2024. Her win in 2024 made her the youngest player in the Open era to win four French Open singles titles at 23 years and nine days old.
She broke the record of Justine Henin who achieved the feat when she was 25 years and eight days old. Swiatek is also the youngest woman in the Open Era to win three French Open singles on the trot since Monica Seles who accomplished the feat at the age of 18.
Jannik Sinner joined Roger Federer in a rare feat
No one probably thought that a player would touch a record only Roger Federer had achieved. Federer ended his season in 2005 without losing a match in straight sets.

But Jannik Sinner accomplished it in 2024. In a year that saw him win his first Grand Slam title, become the World No. 1, and also add the ATP Finals to his trophy cabinet. He became just the second man in the Open Era to end a season without a straight-set defeat.
No player at least for a few years probably won’t be able to achieve this along with seven ATP titles and the Davis Cup! Sinner also lost just six matches this season, half of which was to Carlos Alcaraz. The 23-year-old’s 73-6 win-loss was the best since Andy Murray‘s 78–9 in 2016.
