Top 3 biggest wins in PKL history
The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is one of the best sporting leagues in India. The tournament has been on the rise since its inception in 2014 and has given us many memorable moments over the years.
PKL is known for its fast-paced and exciting matches which puts the fans at the edge of their seats for 40 minutes. We have seen multiple close, as well as one-sided contests over the course of eight seasons and both, have given us a different level of joy and enthusiasm. Recently, in the ongoing PKL 8 season, Bengaluru Bulls thrashed the heavyweights Dabang Delhi KC by a massive margin of 39 points to record the joint-second best win in the history of PKL. Similarly, there have been a few more contests where one team has dominated the other completely and on that note let’s take a look at the three biggest win margins in PKL history.
#3 39 Points- Patna Pirates vs Haryana Steelers, PKL 5
In the PKL 5 Eliminator 1 between Patna Pirates and Haryana Steelers at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Indoor Stadium on 23rd October 2017, we witnessed an exuberant performance from the Pirates to script a record win. The Pardeep Narwal-led Patna Pirates defeated the Steelers 69-30 to record an incredible 39 point victory.
Pardeep Narwal led from the front to collect 34 raid points which was the then highest raid points in a single match. His match-winning exploits included an eight-point raid which is highly unlikely to be ever broken. Jaideep Kuldeep and Vijay were brilliant in defence by securing seven and five tackle points respectively to hammer Haryana Steelers.
#2 39 Points- Bengaluru Bulls vs Dabang Delhi KC, PKL 8
The PKL 8 match between the powerhouses Bengaluru Bulls and Dabang Delhi KC was expected to go right down to the wire. Both sides were performing exceptionally well in the tournament but an injury to Naveen Kumar gave the Bulls an advantage to secure a commendable win at the Sheraton Grand, Whitefield, in Bengaluru on 12th January 2022.
It was always going to be difficult for Delhi to cope up with the Bulls challenge without Naveen and it turned out to be so. The Pawan Kumar Sehrawat-led Bengaluru Bulls were all over Dabang Delhi to record the second-highest win in PKL history. They defeated Delhi 61-22 i.e by a margin of 39 points courtesy of a captain’s performance from Pawan who scored 27 raid points. There were some valuable contributions from the rest of the team too which helped the Bulls not only win the match but display why they are one of the most dangerous sides in the competition.
#1 40 points- Bengaluru Bulls vs UP Yoddha, PKL 5
Once again, it’s Bengaluru Bulls who have recorded a big win and this time it’s the highest win margin in PKL history. It was in the PKL 5 season on 17th October 2017 when Bengaluru Bulls rattled out UP Yoddha at the Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Wrestling Hall.
Led by Rohit Kumar, Bengaluru Bulls gave Yoddhas no chance as they crushed them 64-24 to record a 40 point win and script history. It was a captain’s performance from Rohit Kumar who secured 32 raid points to guide his side home. He was assisted by Ravinder Pahal in defence to secure a high-five by collecting seven tackle points.
