Jon Wertheim along with Andy Roddick recently gave a French Open recap in a recent episode of ‘Served With Andy Roddick’. From Carlos Alcaraz’s sheer brilliance to Iga Swiatek’s dominance, the two experts got into a detailed discussion of the recently concluded Grand Slam.
One of the most talked about matches in the women’s side is not the Final between Swiatek and Jasmine Paolini, but the second-round match between the Pole and Naomi Osaka. It was a battle between the 4-time Grand Slam champions and the two had produced the match of the tournament.
Safe to say, it was better than the finals, as Osaka was the only player to have gotten a chance at a match point against Swiatek in her strongest court.
I feel like Naomi Osaka was a big winner here. She should have got the runner trophy. Naomi Osaka should have gotten some cash bonus for what she did in this tournament.said Jon Wertheim in the podcast
That was indeed a close game for Swiatek, who went on a rampage after that, not losing many games and even finishing a match in 43 minutes. Her final against Paolini was nowhere close to her game against the Japanese star.
Iga Swiatek continues to break records but prefers to stand alone
After winning her third consecutive French Open title and a fourth one overall, Iga Swiatek drew level with tennis greats such as Maris Sharapova and Monica Seles, matching them with 5 Grand Slam finals.
She was even handed the trophy by two other tennis greats Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert, who have also been as dominant as Swiatek in the past. However, the Pole prefers to stand alone in the boat and doesn’t want to compare herself to anyone.
They're really impressive and I know their records, but I'm not comparing myself to anybody. I look at their story as separate, their story and it's really impressive and inspiring.said Iga Swiatek via Roland Garros Press
With Wimbledon around the corner, Swiatek hopes to catch some rest before that and try to record her best run in the Championships. Having never won on grass, the Pole would hope to achieve something big this year.
