Novak Djokovic’s season took a downslide after slipping several times while playing against Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo in the fourth round of the French Open. He was operated on in Paris after an MRI scan revealed a torn meniscus in his right knee.
However, a specialist doctor has revealed that the 37-year-old will be out for about six weeks to three months leading him to miss Wimbledon. Nevertheless, Doctor Goran Rodic admits the Serbian star could recover early enough and compete at Wimbledon. Djokovic revealed yesterday that the surgery went well and was hopeful to be back soon enough to the court even though he didn’t reveal when he will be back.
This is great news for the Serbian who is still searching for his first title of the season after withdrawing from the French Open. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was playing with a right knee problem for a couple of months but it got worse at the Roland Garros after playing two consecutive matches for more than eight hours.
Nonetheless, following surgery on his torn meniscus, he was ruled out of Wimbledon and likely the Paris Olympics. But, Goran Rodic believes that the Serbian rehabilitation will be faster given his hopes to perform at the green major title.
Maybe Novak's injury did not require surgical intervention, however, we who are involved in the examination of athletes suggest that if it is a battle against time, it should be solved surgically because then the rehabilitation is somewhat faster. That works in favor of Nole. I assume that Wimbledon is in his head, I hope so. I have no doubt at all that Nole, as the best athlete in the world, was in the hands of the best doctors.Goran Rodic said via Sportal
Meanwhile, Djokovic playing at Wimbledon will be a big boost to the tournament, given the attraction the 37-year-old brings to the court. The tournament will begin on July 1, while the Paris Olympics begins on July 27.
