The 2024 Open Championship has begun from Thursday, July 18 and will go up to Sunday, July 21. The tournament is scheduled at Royal Troon in South Ayrshire, Scotland. The game begins at 7 a.m. local time on the first two days and 8:30 a.m. on the weekend. The overall prize pool for the tournament is $16.5 million, with the winner receiving $3 million.

The PGA Tour X-handle shared a video featuring the debut players at the Open 2024. The video first showed Ludvig Aberg‘s driver flying away, which was taken from the Masters this year.

Aberg, on six-under, missed a 12-footer for eagle but hit a birdie on his way to a 67, putting himself on the outskirts of contention. The video then shifts to Akshay Bhatia’s impressive 85+ yard approach at the Valero Texas Open.

The video further shows Eric Cole shooting a Hole-in-one on the par-3. This was the first Hole-in-one on the Zurich Classic. Cole is the rookie of the year. Then, It was Davis Thompson, who found Birdie on the 5 out of the. Then his final shot was taken to win the John Deere Classic. This was his career’s first PGA win.

Open Championship 2024 Field

The 2024 Open Championship at Royal Troon has a field consisting of 156 players. It will include 37 first-time Open Championship participants. These first-time players come from 15 different nations.

One of the prominent first-time contestants is Ludvig Aberg, a 24-year-old Swede rated fourth in the world. Aberg has already established a reputation for himself by representing Team Europe in the 2023 Ryder Cup. He has also placed second at this year’s Masters.

Another newcomer to watch is Davis Thompson, the American who earned his spot by winning the John Deere Classic for his maiden PGA Tour title. Thompson followed it up with a top-10 result in the U.S. Open. 

The tournament will also feature 12 amateurs vying for the Silver Medal as the top amateur. Among them are Santiago de la Fuente, a Mexican who qualified by winning the Latin America Amateur Championship, and Jacob Skov Olesen of Denmark, the country’s first Amateur Championship champion.
