Football is already being played behind closed doors and now having matches postponed means the fans and players are totally affected

While the Premier League and FA have confirmed that they don’t have any plans of calling of the league, the cases have started to spike. A record number of 18 people tested positive in the latest round of testing by the Premier League and there are fears that there will be more in this festive season. As things stand, there is a real danger of the Premier League being cancelled and another long break for British football.

The FA and PL need to step up and start working on solutions

The fact that the PL and FA don’t have plans of cancelling the Premier League is not enough when there is nothing being done to curb the increase in cases. With today’s Tottenham Hotspur-Fulham match being postponed and the Everton-Manchester City already being postponed, it opens room for other matches to be postponed.

It has also been reported that Merseyside has been shifted to Tier 3 in a system of 4 tiers which means that there is a danger of cases increasing exponentially. The city of Liverpool was one of the cities massively affected by the virus and somehow brought the virus under control with mass testing and adequate isolating. Liverpool and Everton were the only teams in the Premier League to have fans allowed and now they can’t too.

Now is the time to get serious and start tightening up restrictions in order to allow football to continue. It is well known that in this pandemic era where theatres and hotels are closed, football is the one source of genuine entertainment for millions of people. It has a profound positive effect on people’s mental health and the PL and FA owe the people of this world to keep the most viewed league going.
