“Trial by fire”- Chael Sonnen appreciates Sean Strickland’s approach for Jack Hermansson ahead of Fight Night 200
Chael Sonnen - Sean Strickland
This weekend, the UFC is back after a couple of weeks and will be hosting its first event for February 2022 when UFC Middleweights, Sean Strickland and Jack Hermansson will clash against each other at UFC Fight Night 200 in UFC Apex, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. Strickland is #7 ranked middleweight coming off a five-fight win streak whereas Hermansson is #6 ranked middleweight coming off a win against up and comer prospect Edmen Shahbazyan.
Strickland’s significant victories include the likes of Uriah Hall, Krzysztof Jotko, Court McGee and Brendan Allen. Hermansson’s list includes Kelvin Gastelum, Ronaldo Souza, David Branch, Gerald Meerschaert and many more. Both the fighters are extremely well rounded but it seems Strickland has the edge on standing up whereas Hermansson will have the advantage on the ground.
Chael Sonnen believes that Sean Strickland is facing no less of a live dog in Jack Hermansson
MMA Legend Chael Sonnen took to his Youtube Channel to talk about his official prediction for the main event of the fight card i.e. Fight Night 200 this week headlined by Strickland and Hermansson themselves. He stumbles upon, whilst getting impressed with the kind of preparation Strickland is going through.
“Sean [Strickland] has prepared for what he needs to prepare for,” says Sonnen “Jack [Hermansson] is a pain in the a** on the ground. The other side of it is, Sean did prepare for he prepared the hard way, trial by fire…
Went and jumped in there in a pure competition of grappling so if Sean knows that Jack is good enough on the ground then Sean needs to focus on that for a period of time that’s all you need to know, [and] that Jack is a live dog, very much so!” Sonnen concludes.
For those who don’t remember, Strickland recently competed for Sonnen’s grappling promotion “Submission Underground”, where fighters grapple inside an MMA cage. Strickland, therefore, went against submission specialist Andy Varela, that’s what Sonnen meant when he said Strickland “jumped in there in a pure competition of grappling,” despite Strickland losing the competition.
Do you agree with Sonnen on the way he sees Strickland’s preparation? Who do you think wins the fight this weekend between Hermansson and Strickland? One thing about Strickland is that he is a very resilient fighter and therefore will give a tough time to Hermansson anywhere even when the latter will be on top of him on the ground, but Hermansson is a very tricky athlete and may pull off a submission out of anywhere. Regardless, both the fighters are extremely skilled.
