The King and Queen of the Ring tournaments have often been criticized for having no stakes. The winner usually gets a king/queen gimmick, a crown, a scepter, and a robe, with no substantial award. However, things seem to be going differently under the Triple H era.
During a recent press conference, WWE CCO Paul Levesque raised the stakes of the tournaments. He announced that the winners of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments on Saturday will both receive a world championship opportunity at SummerSlam 2024. These title matches will be against the world champions of their respective brands.
Triple H talked about how, in the past, it was a huge honor to participate in and win these tournaments. Moreover, he reflected on how they would significantly launch a wrestler’s career. Therefore, he wanted these tournaments to stand on their own and did not want to announce these stakes till the very end.
The stakes just got even higher. The winners of this Saturday’s King and Queen of the Ring Tournament Finals will each secure a championship opportunity at #SummerSlam

The finals of the King and Queen of the Ring tournaments will take place this Saturday at the King & Queen of the Ring PLE in Saudi Arabia. On the men’s side, Gunther has already qualified on the latest episode of Raw and will take on the winner of Randy Orton vs. Tama Tonga. Similarly, Lyra Valkyria will face the winner of Bianca Belair vs. Nia Jax.
Wrestling Veteran Dutch Mantel showers praise upon Triple H for his leadership and patience
The Cerebral Assassin making this announcement this late into the tournament is being widely debated on the internet. While some agree with him wanting to let the tournament stand on its own, others believe the WWE could have generated more buzz around the tournament if the stipulation was announced from the beginning.
Speaking on the Smack Talk Show, wrestling legend Dutch Mantel recently claimed that he respected The Game for his leadership and patience. He claimed that when ratings were down, Vince McMahon would ‘hotshot an angle.’ He hyper-accelerated the story progression to generate buzz. While this worked for a week or two, things would eventually return to normalcy.
However, Levesque is much less impulsive with his decisions. Everybody has a story or is on their way to having a story. He cited The Bloodline story as a perfect example. Further, Mantel said that the landscape was so different from 18 months ago; it was as if someone had blown everything up with gasoline and a matchstick and renovated the entire place.
