Former UFC champion Henry Cejudo is regarded as one of the most successful combat sports athletes in US history. Cejudo is one of the few UFC legends who have held two titles simultaneously. During his prime, he was unstoppable, but his relationship with the fans has always been tricky. 

Henry Cejudo has always been a proud American and has frequently walked out with an American flag. In a recent interview, the decorated wrestler was asked about his bitter relationship with Mexican MMA fans. According to ‘Triple C’, there was a clear conflict between him and his fans. 

I was born in the US. I was raised in the US. I say that I’m an American, they don’t like it. I’m just a patriotic dude. I love my heritage bro, I think people take that the wrong way.

Cejudo has the utmost love for Mexican culture, but is more American and respectful of his forefathers and American legacy. ‘Triple C’ also talked about the newly elected president Donald Trump in the interview. He has always been a Republican and was also invited to Trump’s rally to give a speech. 

Cejudo was very vocal about his endorsement of Trump and used his platform to promote him, too. A few months ago, Cejudo also went viral for rejecting the idea of racism in America from Kamaru Usman. Nevertheless, ‘Triple C’ is eager to be able to wave the American flag again inside the octagon.

Henry Cejudo wants his revenge on his old rival 

In 2020, Henry Cejudo announced his retirement in order to spend time with his family. However, a few years later in 2023, he came back and lost a title bout against Aljamain Sterling. His losing momentum continued after he got dominated by Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 298.

During the fight, Dvalishvili humiliated Cejudo by carrying him on his back inside the octagon. Since then, the Georgian has become a champion and Cejudo is eager to get his revenge. In a recent interview, the American fighter shared his future plans about settling the score. 

The best is winning, but even better than winning is getting payback, like revenge. When you’re able to do that, you prove to yourself like a lot. I go back to Demetrious Johnson one [first fight], and I freaking lost the first fight in two minutes and 36 seconds, and then I came back and got it done.

Merab Dvalishvili is currently in a red hot form and recently defeated Umar Nurmagomedov in a convincing way. He is currently looking for new challenges and will be back anytime soon. However, for Cejudo to challenge the champion, he needs to defeat Song Yadong at UFC Seattle soon.
