Tyreek Hill admits Skylar Thompson is better than Tua Tagovailoa in one aspect
Skylar Thompson, sidelined from competitive football for over a year, is set to make his 2024 debut for the Miami Dolphins against the Seattle Seahawks.

After sitting out the entire 2023 season behind Tua Tagovailoa, backup quarterback Skylar Thompson finally has another shot at the Miami Dolphins quarterback job. The Dolphins’ head coach, Mike McDaniel, confirmed the former 7th-round pick will start against the Seattle Seahawks.
Following Tua’s latest hit to the head, the Dolphins decided to put the $53 million man on the concussion protocol. This opened the door for Thompson.
When star wide receiver Tyreek Hill was asked to define a few qualities of the 27-year-old, he made an ironic comparison with Tagovailoa.
He’s [Skylar Thompson] a little bit faster than Tua. I’m a little bit excited about that… He does a great job of extending plays.Tyreek Hill said to reporters on Friday
Hill highlighted Thompson’s last game for the Dolphins, which he played against the Buffalo Bills in the playoffs after both Tua and Teddy Bridgwater ended up suffering concussions.
When we played against Buffalo [the Bills in the 2022 playoffs], he did a good job of stretching the ball downfield and giving them a different look. He has some great qualities to himself. He’s fearless; he’s not afraid of anything, and he’s a real competitor. I love that.Tyreek Hill added

Thompson completed 18/45 for 220 yards, a touchdown with 2 interceptions. While the completion percentage may not look that great, the receivers dropping a few passes had a hand in it.
It may maybe a great opportunity for Thompson to earn some leverage, but he isn’t exactly thrilled by the way it appeared before him.
It makes me sick. In my position [as the backup], you never want the opportunity to come with something like that. Have a lot of love for Tua. Built a great relationship with him. And you care about the person more than the player.Skylar Thompson said last week
Dolphins’ offensive coordinator discusses Skylar Thompson’s growth
In his fourth season at South Beach, Thompson is well-versed with offensive coordinator Frank Smith’s game plans. Smith, on the other hand, believes that the Missouri native has improved considerably since the last time he played for the Dolphins.
I just think his really understanding of himself, how he needs to play to be successful, and knowing his teammates, knowing how to communicate with them and reach them—I just think overall you grow.Frank Smith said as per Dolphins.com
As an additional precaution, McDaniel poached former Baltimore Ravens Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntly to the practice squad. He has been elevated to the active roster and is expected to sit in the Dolphins camp in Seattle.
