Anthony Joshua recently suffered a shocking loss to Daniel Dubois. Former WBC champion, Tyson Fury offered his perspective on the fight. He highlighted the volatile nature of heavyweight boxing, drawing from his own loss to Oleksandr Usyk earlier this year. Here is what happened:

Tyson Fury did not criticize Anthony Joshua but instead extended sympathy. The former WBC champion recognized that getting knocked out can happen to any heavyweight. He described the loss as part of the sport and extended his regards to Daniel Dubois.

Fantastic job, fair play to young Dan. Everybody wrote him off. Coming here he was the world champion and everyone treated him like he was a bum. He showed what he’s made of, fantastic, fair play.

Joshua, at 34 years old, was floored multiple times by Dubois before ultimately being counted out. Fury acknowledged that Joshua’s age might be a factor, but did not take anything away from Dubois’ performance. The former heavyweight champion highlighted that “a good right hand on the end of the chin”, is all that it takes.

Interestingly, Fury once had the opportunity to spar with a very young Dubois. This was back in 2017 when Dubois was yet to turn pro. Even from that little sparring session, Fury could tell Dubois was a good fighter. As such, his progress in the ring and his recent win over one of Britain’s biggest names proves Fury right.

Currently, Fury is focused on his own upcoming bout with Oleksandr Usyk. However, Fury’s comments after the fight showed some respect for Joshua’s resilience. Therefore, a clash between the two isn’t out of the picture yet.

Johnny Nelson and Eddie Hearn speculate Anthony Joshua’s future after the loss to Daniel Dubois

Former boxer Johnny Nelson, now a Sky Sports pundit, was blunt in his analysis of Joshua’s performance. Nelson argued that Joshua, given his vast experience and previous setbacks, has “no excuses” for this defeat. He likened this fight to Joshua’s shocking loss to Andy Ruiz back in 2019.

There are no excuses for Anthony Joshua because he's had every experience good and bad through this game, so for that to happen there is no excuse, point blank.

Nelson emphasized that the time has come for Joshua to make a decision about his career. Promoter Eddie Hearn has suggested that a rematch with Dubois could be next. Joshua did have a rematch clause in his contract. He expressed confidence in Joshua but admitted that Dubois would be a dangerous opponent in a rematch.
