A huge change seems to be finally happening in golf. As per reports, the U.S. players might get paid for the first time in Ryder Cup’s history at the 2025 event in Bethpage, New York.
The paying of Ryder Cup players has become a massive part of debate in recent years. Last year, there were several rumors that the U.S. players were unhappy with not getting paid with Patrick Cantlay refusing to wear a hat in protest against this. The golfer has repeatedly denied this and claimed that the hat did not fit him.
As per reports from James Corrigan of The Telegraph, the American golfers could be paid around $400,000 each. However, nothing has been made official as of yet as this proposal will need approval from the board first. On the other hand, European golfers are likely not going to be paid anything.
James Corrigan reports that Team USA Ryder Cup players could soon be paid for competing. It is believed the figure $400k per player has been put forward and is likely to be ratified at board level. There are no plans for European players to be paid at the moment.

Previously, the members of Team USA would receive charitable gifts of $200,000 which they could donate to any charity of their choosing. However, this payment would be the first time in the event’s long history that a player has been paid directly.
An unnamed European Ryder Cup member told The Telegraph that this was something that the Americans had been wanting for decades.

No, the tour has made these guys uber wealthy, they can’t spend one week every 2 yrs playing for the US? They don’t get paid if they miss a cut, so pretend you missed a cut but got all your first class expenses paid for. Just ridiculous greed. Fuck Cantlay

No. Those guys are not there for the money.

Absolutely. For too long, the PGAoA has used patriotism to guilt the players into providing free labor while others rake in millions. If it’s for the love of country then why doesn’t everybody else work for free?

Yes, if the Ryder Cup is generating income. They deserve a piece.

They still get paid even if they are not wearing gear. Their sponsorship contracts are not paid weekly. They sign yearly or multi year contracts. They are not working for free that week.

Yes! If the PGA of America makes money tgen the players should get a fair cut. $400k each is nothing compared to tge valye of the event. Tickets are $1000 a day and they sold out. Tickets alone are $40mil a day. For 4 days that is $160mil.

$400k per player is about 5mil max.…
Yes… this is what the MULTI MILLIONAIRE athlete needs!

Have some damn pride ?
Spoiled brats! I quit watching PGA golf!

They absolutely should be paid. They are professional golfers, this is their job. Would you go to work for free at your job for a week? Does the PGA of America host it for free? Are the tv deals free? No. Pay them and move on.

Another thing that has upset the fans is the high price of the tickets. A one-day ticket for the event, which is now sold out, costs $750. This has led to the fans bashing the PGA of America.
It now remains to be seen if the board approves this proposal or not. The 2025 event is scheduled to take place in between late September and early October with Luke Donald and Keegan Bradley leading Team Europe and Team USA respectively.
