U20 Athletics World Championship
The U20 Athletics World Championship 2021 is all set to get underway in Nairobi, Kenya. The event will kick off on 18 August and close on the 22nd of August. The event was earlier scheduled for 2020 but due to the pandemic, it was first postponed for a year before further logistical issues meant it will begin on 18 August, a day later as per plans.
The Championship will see a 28-membered Indian team feature in 19 different disciplines. Since the last two editions of the biannual event, India has been able to a champion. First, it was Neeraj Chopra who made a world record throw to take the gold back in 2016 while Hima Das clinched the gold medal in the women’s 400m in Tampere in 2018.
Indian contingent for U20 Athletics World Championship

The Indian contingent, which consists of 17 boys and 11 girls, will be looking to put up an impressive show. javelin thrower Kunwar Ajai Raj Singh Rana and long jumper Shaili Singh are India’s brightest hopes at the World Championship. According to the starting list, Ajai Raj is third in the list with a season’s best of 74.75m while Shaili is fifth with a 6.48m jump.
