10 players born in India who have played for the UAE cricket team
The United Arab Emirates is a key area in the world of cricket. Although the national team in the nation hasn’t achieved a lot, the region is an important hub for cricket. The grounds in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and especially Sharjah have hosted a plethora of iconic matches. Sides like Afghanistan and Pakistan have utilized the country’s stadiums for their matches due to the absence of international cricket in their respective nations.
Now, the UAE cricket team has been steadily growing in terms of its ability. It took part in the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup and although, it lost all the matches, there were some very good performances. The matches against Ireland and Zimbabwe turned out to be close and high scoring encounters where UAE ended up on the wrong side of the result. Now, the UAE has had plenty of Indian-born cricketers who have played for them.
List of Indian-born players to play for UAE
- Krishna Chandran: Kerala-born all-rounder Krishna Chandran played in the 2015 Cricket World Cup for UAE. He also represented Kerala in the domestic circuit.
- Ansh Tandon: Delhi-born Ansh Tandon made his debut for UAE in 2020
- Alishan Sharafu: 18-year-old Kerala youngster Alishan Sharafu has also represented UAE.
- Basil Hameed: Born in Kozhikode, Basil Hameed is an all-rounder who has impressed for UAE
- Vriitya Aravind: Born in Chennai, Vriitya Aravind has represented UAE and also taken part in the Abu Dhabi T10 league for Pune Devils.
- Chundangapoyil Rizwan: Yet another Kerala player, Chundangapoyil Rizwan has played for UAE.
- Chirag Suri: Chirag Suri is a well-known face who has appeared in the T10 league and also the IPL where he was picked up by the Gujarat Lions but did not get a game.
- Laxman Sreekumar: Also born in Kerala, the 33-year-old Laxman Sreekumar has been picked by UAE in the past.
- Swapnil Patil: Born in Thane, Swapnil Patil has impressed for UAE.
- Vikrant Shetty: Born in Maharashtra, Vikrant Shetty has represented UAE in four matches.
Thus, the UAE cricket team has had as many as 10 Indian-born players who have played for them in the past. The team seems to be on the right path and in the future, might as well become a team to watch out for.
