First Half

Lionel Messi

Barcelona came out strong right from the first whistle and got a penalty within 5 minutes as Messi got tripped in the box. Messi stepped up and converted the penalty to give Barca the lead. Furthermore, Barca kept putting the pressure on Dynamo and went close again with Pedri hitting the bar and Griezmann hitting wide with the goal gaping. Dynamo got back into the match but couldn’t find a goal with Buyalskiy hitting a header straight a Ter Stegen. Messi was in the mood throughout the first half but Dynamo Keeper, Neshcheret kept him out repeatedly.

Second Half

Dynamo came back strongly from the break and almost scored through Tsygankov but Ter Stegen made a wonderful one on one save. Ter Stegen was in action once again as he pulled off another brilliant save with his legs from Supriaha. It was the turn of Dynamo Keeper next as he kept out a wonderful header from Sergi Roberto. Nevertheless, Barca eventually found their way and got the second with Pique scoring through a header from a Fati pass. However, Dynamo found a goal back in the 74th minute with Tsygankov scoring through a rebound after Ter Stegen saved the shot from Benjamin Verbic. Dynamo tried for the equalizer but Barca wrapped up the match comfortably.

Barca had to thank Ter Stegen for this victory and Koeman acknowledged it saying, “I’m happy with the result but not with certain aspects of our game and luckily we had Ter Stegen around. I think we started well and got the goal early and had some clear chances but after that we lost control and they created a lot of danger. Thanks to Marc, who was phenomenal, we held on.”
