UEFA Champions League: Monchengladbach vs Real Madrid

Real Madrid fought back from 2-0 down and managed to make it 2-2 against Monchengladbach. Benzema and Casemiro got the goals in the last few minutes to get Madrid one point from the fixture. Gladbach will be very disappointed after having led by two goals through Thuram. Moreover, Madrid are in the last place in their Champions League group and will now need to get points against Inter Milan in a huge test of their credentials.

First Half

The first half was subdued with chances at premium for both sides. However, Gladbach got the opening from a break with Thuram scoring through a pass from Plea. Kroos did test the goalkeeper of Gladbach but he was also culpable for the first goal with his mistake leading to the goal. Madrid went into half time in desperate need of some inspiration.

Real Madrid started the second half determined to win the match with Asensio hitting the woodwork while Vinicius struck over the crossbar. However, Gladbach weren’t going to sit back and hit a deserved second goal with Thuram getting first to the rebound from a Plea shot. At this moment, Zidane sent on Modric and Hazard to get back in the game.

Madrid huffed and puffed until they finally got the first goal from a overhead kick by Benzema. Madrid didn’t rest and continued to apply the pressure. They finally got the equalizer through Casemiro from a Modric cross in the 93rd minute to break the hearts of Gladbach.

Zidane speaking after the match said, “We didn’t think this would be such a drama. But my team showed that they know how to react. We always play to win and show the hunger to win. No way were we happy with the draw.”
