UFC 259: Blachowicz vs Adesanya(Early-Prelim and Preliminary results)

Trevin Jones def. Mario Bautista via TKO

Round 1: The fight started with Jones landing a few good kicks early on. Trevin looked really confident as he catches Bautista’s kick and tosses it. Bautista fails repeatedly trying to land kicks on Jones. Jones and Bautista trade blows and Trevin dodges one from a close distance and threw an underhook. Fight transitions to a lot of pushing around and failed attempts in takedowns. Jones manages to sneak in punches and kicks as the round ended with both the fighters on the fence.

Round 2: The second round starts off with Bautista throwing a combo which got reckless out of hand. Jones cracked Mario with a strong, hard left hand that puts Bautista to the floor. Jones wastes no time and goes for ground-and-pound. Referee Chris Tognoni to the rescue as he steps in to call the fight.

Uros Medic def. Aalon Cruz via TKO

Round 1: The fighters don’t touch gloves and Cruz wastes no time to come in aggressive with a flying knee. Unfortunately that knee miss everything. Medic analyses the fight as he circled around and went in with a combination of some good kicks at Cruz. Aalon still looking to play reckless, as he rushes in to catch Cruz only for Medic to hit him with a strong right hook. Cruz is semi-stunned at the moment, but goes for a takedown. Uros stuns Cruz with a flying knee that catches him really well. Followed by another swift combo that floors Cruz. Medic goes for the ground-and-pound only this time the game is over.

Amanda Lemos def. Livinha Souza via TKO

Round 1: Both the fighters start out with a patient approach. Both of the fighters play conservative whilst throwing a couple shots when in range. Lemos the first to break with a crispy jab. Amanda follows with a couple kicks to leg. Things looking really bad for Souza as she is caught with a right hand to the chin as she drops to the mat. Though Lemos is quick to stand up again it is only a matter of time before Lemos unleashes the big shots. Souza looking to grab that left leg of Lemos but throws a few punches. Souza is forced to go back to her feet while Amanda throws a crisp clean jab that puts Livinha back to the floor again. Souza is stunned by the following punches and the game is over.

Sean Brady def. Jake Matthews via submission 

Round 1: Early low kicks are thrown by Brady, start kicking low to start the fight off. Matthews plays the classic game press and strike and is always the first to throw a punch. Yet, Matthews has not found his mark yet. Brady is moving well in this round and is able to dodge the punches thrown at him. Matthews catches a kick and throws Brady to the floor. Brady is quick to get up before Matthews can do something really dangerous. The fight is taken to the floor and Brady is controlling Matthews’ head. Brady continues to throw punches and takes it to the bell.

Round 2: The second round starts off with Matthews throwing a punch to the face with his right. Brady has his left eye a little busted by it. Still, Brady is able to get some points by swinging his hands. Sean changes their plan and goes for a takedown 90 seconds into the fight. Brady looking for the guillotine as Matthews is sitting with his back against the wall. Brady is still on top and Matthews just can’t get back to his feet. Just when Matthews shows his back trying to stand up, the bell saves him from what could have been a terrifying choke from Brady.

Round 3: The final round starts off similar to the previous with Mathews going for the punches and Brady striking with low legs. Brady fakes a shot that throws Matthew off-balance which is enough for Brady to go for the neck. The fight is on the floor now. Brady in full control of Matthews’ neck. Brady finally manages to set up for an arm triangle perfectly. It’s a tough spot but somehow squeezes it in and that’s it the fights over. Matthews has to tap.

Kennedy Nzechukwu def. Carlos Ulberg via TKO 

Round 1: Ulberg starts off as the aggressor with low kicks and and follows with a front kick. The fight gets busy right off the bat. Ulberg looking real good with some body shots and some strikes with the knee. Nzechukwu is defending well but hasn’t got any good points off his offense game so far. Ulberg is going all levels by mixing his attack up. Finally, Nzechukwu lands two shots but Ulberg still attacking in volumes.

Both the fighters exchange shots before Ulberg catches his opponent with a good one. Nzechukwu is hurt but is able to battle it out. The fight is amazing as both the fighters bang it out showing no real weakness. Ulberg with a kick just before the bell. Amazing round.

Round 2: The round starts off similar with Ulberg as aggressor and low kicks followed by body shots. Only this time Nzechukwu doesn’t play conservative and charges forward. Ulberg with some nasty kicks to his opponent’s body. Nzechukwu lands a clean right hand to the chin and Ulberg is dropped to the canvas. Kennedy jumps on top with some punches and Oh God the fight is over. Extremely intense fight!

Result: Kennedy Nzechukwu def. Carlos Ulberg via TKO (punches) – Round 2, 3:19

Tim Elliott def. Jordan Espinosa via unanimous decision

Round 1: A lot of movement to begin with as Elliot is showing a wild footwork. Espinosa is calm and finds Elliot with a jab. Elliot able to eat that and still moving around. Espinosa with success within range using his hands. Tim gets an underkick to Espinosa and trips his opponent to the ground. Elliot finds some success on the ground as he manages to wrap Espinosa’s neck with his leg. Jordan turns around to escape the choke but Elliot putting a lot of pressure as the round ends.

Round 2: Espinosa starts away with a high kick but is not able to keep the match on feet as Elliot drives him to the canvas. Elliot presses the forearm to his opponent’s neck and is in control. Espinosa almost escapes but is now stuck in defense. He somehow manages to not expose his back. Elliot finds the back but Espinosa with a quick right hand to slow things down. End of round 2.

Round 3: Elliot starts off quickly with a couple of body shots. Espinosa hits back with a right hand. Elliot again manages to grab the knee and trip his opponent to the floor. Elliot is dominating and landes a flurry of punches. Espinosa is cut now. Tim is in full control staying on top with a lot of punches coming Espinosa’s way. He is helpless, the round ends with a huge right hand from close distance to Espinosa.

Result: Tim Elliott def. Jordan Espinosa via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-25)

Kai Kara-France def. Rogerio Bontorin via TKO 

Round 1: As both men move around the octagon smoothly, Kara strikes first with a kick and goes for right hand over the top which he misses. Bontorin doesn’t hold back for too long as he throws two body shots, one with his left, and one with his right. Rogerio lifts Kara and slams him to the floor. Bontorin going for the choke but Kara defends well. Kara is defending very well and doesn’t let his rival choke him. France finally finds some space for him. Starts throwing bombs with his right hand right away. Bontorin is hurt now. Herb Dean calls the fight and it’s over. What a performance by Kai Kara-France.

Askar Askarov def. Joseph Benavidez via unanimous decision

Round 1: Askarov with an early front kick to the body. Benavidez moving well and answers with his own. Both men patient as they start. Benavidez leading with punches but kicking to the body, as well. Benavidez kicks to the legs. Benavidez is in complete control as he is setting the pace right now. Askarov on the other hand is moving well to Benavidez’s offense. With one minute left, Askarov tries a takedown. Though Benavidez defends well, Askarov throws him to the canvas. Finishes with a body kick to end the round.

Round 2: Benavidez takes the center and looks to strike. High kick blocked. Benavidez with a low kick and a right hand. Askarov lands with a big right hand. Askarov presses and drives inside, lifting his opponent and slamming him to the canvas. Askarov slips to the back but Benavidez works to his feet. Askarov throws Benavidez and slams him to the floor. Benavidez’s left eye busted up pretty bad. Askarov not giving him any room to breathe. Another takedown. Askarov lets Benavidez stand on the ground to hit him with a flurry.

Round 3: Doctor clears Benavidez off his busted eye. Benavidez throws a huge left hand to which Askarov responds with Benavidez with a right hand, but Askarov counters immediately. Benavidez is throwing hard, but he’s not quite finding the mark. Askarov with a high kick that scores. Right hand lands. Benavidez pushes until the end, Askarov with a little Ali shuffle at the end of the round.

Result: Askar Askarov def. Joseph Benavidez via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-26)

 Kyler Phillips def. Song Yadong via unanimous decision

Round 1: Phillip throws the first punches and both men looking to engage. Phillips lands with a clean jab. Phillips wants to sward, but Yadong swinging right back, as well. High pace. Phillips with another jab as he moves laterally. Yadong holding the center and trying to engage, but that Phillips jab is on point. Yadong with a flying knee, but Phillips blocks it. Brief clinch in the end by Yadong but they back away as bell rings.

Round 2: Both the fighters trading blows at the start.  Phillips wants a takedown but can’t quite get it. He kicks the body and pulls away. Both men just teeing off. Left hand for Yadong. Phillips rips a kick to the leg. Yadong pressing and lands a big right. He’s turning up the pressure. Phillips still moving well. Phillips goes for the takedown. But both back to their fight as he lands a jab. End of round.

Round 3: The final round starts off at high pace. Combinations fired, and Phillips lands to the lead leg, as well. Yadong kicks the legs a bit, as well, and then they both rip off pinches. Just nonstop action here between these two. Both men having some success scoring but not showing the wear at all. Phillips with the takedown. Yadong trying to get up but not quiet able to. And the bell rings.

Result: Kyler Phillips def. Song Yadong via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28

Dominick Cruz def. Casey Kenney via split decision

Round 1: Veterans in the cage. Kenney rushes and Cruz wastes no time to change levels. Cruz sets up on the outside. Kenney pressing, and Cruz tries to grab a ick but can’t hold it. Cruz lands a sneaky high kick. Cruz thinks takedown again, but it’s not there. Cruz moving well and chops at the legs. Kenney tracking him down and getting the timing. Cruz fires a huge overhand and hits Kenney with a body shot. Cruz stays busy and Kenney lands a heavy kick. Good round from both.

Round 2: Kenney once again with the pressure. Rips through and scores with a right hand.  Cruz wants to change levels, but he’s stuffed. Kenney walking through punches now to deliver his own. Cruz with a high kick. Kenney with a left hand. He’s finding the mark again. Cruz continues to stick and move. Kenney is still sticking to his leg game. Cruz meanwhile lands a heavy left hand. Both the fighters stay busy. Cruz has the edge over Kenney with the punches. The bell sounds.

Round 3: The final round. Once again no signs of passive fighting.  Kenney grabs the neck and squeezes as he finally falls. Cruz in side control on the opposite side. Kenney keeping the squeeze, but Cruz steps over tho half-guard. Kenney finally lets it go and scrambles up to the feet. Kenney with a low kick as they reset. Two punches back to back for Kenney but Cruz is quick to answer back. Crazy stuff from both as they go back to back. Fight taken to another level. Cruz in complete control. The final bell rings.

Result: Dominick Cruz def. Casey Kenney via split decision (28-29, 29-28, 30-27)
