UFC 260: Miocic vs Ngannou 2 – Early prelims and preliminary results

UFC 260 takes place at the UFC apex in Las Vegas which features the ‘biggest, baddest’ rematch of all time. A heavyweight title bout between reigning champion Stipe Miocic and number one heavyweight title contender, Francis Ngannou clash at this event. Francis Ngannou will look to get his revenge against Stipe Miocic who beat Ngannou in January 2018.

The Canadian Marc-Andre Barriault stops Abu Azaitar in the very last second of the bout as he opens UFC 260 with a TKO.

Preliminary results:

Omar Morales vs. Shane Young (Featherweight bout)

Round 1: Shane Young started off the round with an early inside kick. Young looked like the aggressor while Morales was very patient in the center looking for the jab. Ouch! Morales with a kick to the cup of Young but Morales agreed to continue the fight. As the bout restarts, Morales kicks high and it grazed Young. Young looked to clinch on Morales’ knees as he shot inside. Morales goes behind Young and lifts the opponent to slam him into the canvas. Both the fighters trading positions against the fence. The round ends with both the fighters trading punches.

Round 2: Young again with the lower kicks to start the second round off. A successful takedown for Young but Morales gets right back up. Shane Young looking to press but Morales finds success with nice low kicks. Both the fighters trade jabs. Both the fighters trying to move around looking to land a big shot. Young is hitting Morales with little punches but can’t get to break Morales’ groove. The bell sounds for second round.

Round 3: Young again acting as the aggressor. Morales happy to stay back and respond to Young’s punches. Morales sending huge punches Young’s way. Shane changes levels and takes the fight to the mat. Morales defends well against Young and wraps manages to get himself a takedown. The fight is now in the center. Morales with a few legs kicks once again. Young finding it hard to press as Morales counters very well. Morales with some power hands as the round is ending. End of Round 3.

Result: Omar Morales def. Shane Young via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

Modestas Bukauskas vs. Michal Oleksiejczuk (light heavyweight bout)

Round 1: Bukauskas wasted no time to get off with a spinning kick to the body. The fighter tries to move well. Oleksiejczuk comes at his opponent with a big flurry of punches trying to press and does well. Huge left hand from Oleksiejczuk. great movement from both the fighters. Bukauskas counters well that stings his opponent. Bukauskas uses this to put pressure with a flurry of punches and a big knee. A spinning back fist from Bukauskas but it is blocked by Oleksiejzcuk. End of round 1

Round 2: Oleksiejczuk again pressing really well but Bukauskas meets him with a right hand. Oleksiejczuk shows more power but Bukauskas is smart to tackle them with movement. A great standup fight display from both the fighters. Bukauskas wants to hit it home but doesn’t meet well. Oleksiejzcuk with a right hand and lands a left following that. His rival scores with a jab. Bukauskas with a big right hand that stuns his opponent in the end of the round. Good round.

Round 3: Oleksiejczuk looking to be the aggressor again. Bukauskas moving really well and lands a right hand which is countered by Michal with a right of his own. Big shots landed throughout the fight. Michal almost with a takedown but changes his mind and takes action to the fence. Bukauskas gets off the cage and scores with a right hand. The final round ends with a body kick from Modestas.

Jared Gooden vs. Abubakar Nurmagomedov (Welterweight bout)

Round 1: Gooden very aware of Nurmagomedov’s takedown skills so has his hands low. Gooden with the jabs and keeps the feet moving. Nurmagomedov with a wild hook but misses badly. Nurmagomedov with a two-punch combo towards Gooden. Abubakar with a body kicks too. Nurmagomedov is attacking like crazy with a left hand followed by a kick to the chest. The round ends.

Round 2: Nurmagomedov with a clinch but fails to keep control of it. Gooden so far has done a good job of avoiding the takedown. The Dagestani doing some damage with some good punches. Gooden is stunned with one of Abu’s punches. One minute left in the round as Nurmagomedov lands a left hand. Round ends on the feet.

Round 3: Both the fighter start off with good movement and spirit. Nurmagomedov finally able to change levels and goes deep in takedown. Gooden is not giving up and is up to the challenge. Abu with the side control on the canvas though Gooden has his guard up. The Dagestani controlling the fight from the top leaving Gooden with no room to attack. Nurmagomedov throws short punches as well. Round ends as Gooden cannot get up at all.

Fabio Cherant vs. Alonzo Menifield (Light heavyweight bout)

Round 1: Fabio Cherant and Alonzo Menifield go at each other as the round begins. Alonzo takes the fight to the canvas and under 2 minutes, Fabio is made to tap out as Alonzo lands a submission by Von Fluke choke. The fight is over. God!

Results: Alonzo Menifield def. Fabio Cherant via submission (Von Flue choke) – Round 1, 1:11
