The former UFC Bantamweight champion, Petr Yan displayed a clinical performance against the number third-ranked UFC Bantamweight fighter, Cory Sandhagen at the co-main event of UFC 267 and won the interim UFC Bantamweight title. Sandhagen started the fight in a good flow and won the very first round, but Yan picked the pace from the second round and took over the fight.

This fight was originally scheduled between Petr Yan and Aljamain Sterling but the champion, Sterling wasn’t allowed to compete due to health issues. ‘Funkmaster’ and Yan have a lot of hate for each other but still, the champion complimented Petr Yan for his performance at UFC 267.

While breaking down Yan vs Sandhagen on his personal Youtube channel, Sterling says, “He did a great job of walking him down, that defense is very, very tight, very technical. He does a good job of looking through the eyebrows – just touching, slight parries, so every time you throw a jab, he just catches it, catches it nice and clean where almost nothing gets by.”

Aljamain Sterling wants to face Petr Yan for a title unification fight in early 2022

Aljamain Sterling further revealed that as soon the fight ended, he texted the UFC matchmaker Sean Shelby and suggested him to book his rematch against Petr Yan in the first quarter of 2022.

Sterling continued, “Yan fought a beautiful fight, I got the surgery. I still need a little bit more time. I’m aiming for January, February. … I’ll be at MSG – obviously UFC 268 is this weekend. I’m going to be there. Hopefully we get to talk it out and put something solid together and really get on the same page so we can all get ready to unify this belt and give the fans the fight that they deserve.”
