“Not a problem for me,” Aleksandar Rakic welcomes a rematch against Anthony Smith on December 18
Anthony Smith and Aleksandar Rakic
Aleksandar Rakic has no problems fighting UFC veteran Anthony Smith again in a rematch but he wants a guaranteed title shot after that.
Aleksandar Rakic is a rising light heavyweight fighter in the UFC and is predicted by many analysts to be a worthy title contender. “The Rocket” has only one loss in his entire UFC career with several dominating performances. Rakic and Anthony Smith met each other in the octagon at UFC Fight Night 175 where Rakic beat Smith via decision in the main event.
After his submission victory against Ryan Spann, “Lionheart” had a direct callout to Rakic asking for a rematch. And Smith’s wish looks to be granted by his rival. In a recent episode of MMA Hour by Ariel Helwani, Rakic said that he was open to a title shot but he laid out a few conditions for the promotion and one of them was that he got a title shot if he won the rematch. “Smith rematch is not a problem for me,” said Rakic. “The UFC wants the rematch, it needs to be the main event, Dec.18.”
Jiri Prochazka is still on Aleksandar Rakic’s checklist
A fighter to watch out for Aleksandar Rakic is Jiri Prochazka, who has rose to the top with some highlight-reel performances putting him in line for the title next. Rakic has stated publicly that he feels Prochazka does not deserve to be in the conversation for a title shot over him. Rakic also proposed a potential title eliminator against Jiri but there has been no answer to that suggestion from the fighter nor the promotion.
“He can sit and wait forever if he wants but after I finish my business with Smith, I don’t know if this will be enough to sit around and wait for the chance. This guy fights once a year and gets a title shot. I know the UFC likes guys that are active and I challenged him for the last few months,” said Rakic while speaking to Ariel.
