“If we have to cross that path, we will,” Alexander Volkanovski sheds light on a probable match with his teammate Dan Hooker in the future
Alexander Volkanovski and Dan Hooker
The number 8th ranked UFC Lightweight fighter, Dan Hooker is going to make his comeback in the Featherweight division, following his three losses in the last four fights in the Lightweight division. The featherweight division is ruled by Hooker’s teammate and training partner, Alexander Volkanovski.
Dan Hooker made his UFC debut in the Featherweight division but after a record of 3-3 at the start of his career, Hooker made a transition to the Lightweight division, and now he is aiming to step down again. This can even lead to a fight between Volkanovski and Dan Hooker in near future.
Talking about the same in his latest interview with The All-Star, Alexander Volkanovski says, “He’s a big lightweight and you know that he’s made it before but you just sit there like, ‘How’s he gonna do it?’ At the end of the day, you want whatever’s best for anyone, especially your teammate. If he thinks that’s what’s best, he showed that he can make it, if he still thinks he’s gonna be healthy there then good on ’em.”
“Obviously, people will be like, ‘Well, what if you’ll have to meet?’ We’ll worry about that when that happens. But at the same time, that’s just like any other division. It doesn’t mean because he’s in this division I’m not allowed to go there, that’s not fair.” {H/t BJ Penn}
“If it gets there, it gets there, If not, all good,” Alexander Volkanovski believes Dan Hooker isn’t a threat for him right now
The UFC Featherweight champion, Alexander Volkanovski recently defended his title against Brian Ortega at the main event of UFC 266 and Hooker will be making his comeback in the division, which means he’ll need at least three or four wins before challenging Volkanovski for the title.
That is why Alexander Volkanovski isn’t bothered by a probable fight with him. He continued, “If we have to cross that path, we will, Obviously, we’re teammates and we’re gonna be supporting each other helping each other out in camps doing all that type of stuff.”
“If we have to meet, we have to meet and you worry about that then. But that’s not our goal. It’s not like, ‘Oh, sh*t. We need to start game-planning for each other.’ Not just yet. If it gets there, it gets there. If not, all good.” {H/t BJ Penn}
