“We are the product”- Aljamain Sterling believes it won’t kill the UFC to pay fighters slightly higher

Aljamain Sterling
Aljamain Sterling speaks on fighter pay! Fighter pay is always a hot and trending topic in the MMA community. Everyone has an opinion about it. In almost every press conference, Dana White is asked about the same. There is pressure within the organization from the fighters to the reporters and also pressure from beyond organizations like Jake Paul to increase fighter pay. Even fight fans are keen on indulging themselves in this movement. Dana White, president of the UFC, claims that fighter pay is unjust and they are already paid fairly.
In an interview with Yahoo sport, White claimed, “Yeah, definitely. Listen, when you talk about the elite, I’m putting on 44 fights in a year, right? And people are buying these pay-per-views, you know, 13 or 14 a year, watching all the other ones building, whatever. Then, when you look at what most of these guys make, most UFC fighters make more than boxers, okay? Most UFC fighters make more than boxers, especially at a lower level.”
He added, “Then, the guys, you know, the Khabibs, the Conors, the Rondas, you know, even the Jon Jones’, these guys make more than most of these guys that are fighting for big title fights. Don’t believe the bull***t. Don’t believe all the stuff you hear. These guys make a lot of money.”
Aljamain Sterling promulgating fighter pay, Demands a raise in an interview

Aljamain is relishing his recent victory. The journey has been very tenacious for the champion. Since the victory, he’s been very vocal about his opinions on social media and in interviews. In a recent interview with MMA Junkie, Aljamain spoke on the topic of fighter pay where he expressed that although he has good relations with authorities at the UFC, he still feels he is underpaid and rightfully fighters should get more because the revenue split is not fair.
“Giving us an extra 5% collectively would kill you that much? I think you guys would survive. We are the product,” says Sterling.
Sterling claimed that even though not all fighters bring in the revenue they still deserve to receive a base amount in which they are financially free to pay medical bills and be financially secured between fights so that fighters stop having multiple fights and focus on training. As it’s fighters who people are paying to see.
Furthermore, Aljamain claimed he wishes to fight 3 times this year. He already fought Petr Yan where he settled the score at 2-0 and defeated him in a split decision. This makes the division move on to new match-ups and makes the division more exciting.
