Cub Swanson and Urijah Faber, if these two names bring a lot of memories and smiles to you than any other fighter, then you might have been a fan of this sport for almost 2 decades. Swanson and Faber have been two of the most fan-favorite fighters in the WEC-UFC history. Before fighting for the featherweight and bantamweight division of the UFC, both Swanson and Faber used to fight at the same weight class of featherweight in WEC before the UFC brought over the organization.
After that, it wasn’t possible for both the fighters to collide against each other, with both being from California, it would’ve been surely a treat for the fans hailing from the “Silicon Valley of the World.” Since we are living in 2022, it seems like a lot of impossible options can become possible now and this fight might be the starting of it.
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Swanson called out Faber for an honorary WEC belt, he said “I think fighting Urijah is the same thing on another level. People love him and people have loved me for years, so I think it always makes for a great fight. We should have fought many, many times and just never did, so why not now? We should do it for an honorary WEC belt. They did the ‘BMF’ belt, so why not?“

Faber is never the one to walk away from the challenger, and he would gladly fight Swanson for a nice paycheque. Talking to Ariel Helwani from The MMA Hour, he said, “I like Cub a lot. He’s a guy that’s grown as an individual. He’s getting better as a fighter. I would rather be 38 than 43 when we fight, but it sounds like something that would be a lot of fun. I’m always looking for things around my birthday to get my engine going and give me a reason to get in amazing shape.”
“I would have fought already over the last couple of years, but I’m all about the whole experience, and I wasn’t going to go sit in a quiet room and fight somebody,” he said. “So I’d like to do it with a crowd if that’s the case. Absolutely, I’d be down to have a paid birthday present that makes me feel like I’m on top of the world.”
