“I think he loses at his own game there,” Anthony Smith makes a bold prediction for Ciryl Gane vs Jon Jones
Ciryl Gane vs Jon Jones
The heavyweight clash between the undisputed champion, Francis Ngannou, and interim heavyweight champion, Ciryl Gane is scheduled for UFC 271. This one is going to be for all the marbles, and it could very well be the best heavyweight title fight of all time.
These two used to train together, but Ngannou switched camps after he lost the title shot against Stipe Miocic. He captured the title pretty soon, but the animosity between Ngannou and his former coach grew constantly, and now things aren’t good between these two.
Former light heavyweight title challenger, Anthony Smith talked about this fight in his recent interview with SiriusXM’s: Fight Nation, he said, “I think Ciryl Gane is the real deal. I’m making the bold prediction, I think Gane beats Francis Ngannou, and I think he does it fairly handily. I also think Gane beats Jones.”

He also talked about the possible fight between Gane and former light heavyweight champion, Jon Jones. He believes with Jones’ weight gain for the heavyweight division, he will match Gane’s physicality, and Jones will get the better out of him in terms of experience, he added, “Gane’s absolutely the better striker for sure. The little caveat there is if Gane can defend a takedown, I think that he beats Jones, and I think it’s boring. I think it’s a game of darts, and they’re just throwing darts at each other. I just think that Ciryl Gane is the higher-level striker. I think he manages distance as well as – maybe a little bit better than – Jon Jones.”
Talking about his fight against Jones, he said, “Once we got into the clinch, that’s when I started having problems because his arms are long. He is deceptively strong. The clinch game is going to be a little funky with those guys, but if they’re just at a distance and Jon Jones plays his game, I think he loses at his own game there.”
