Leon Edwards had to go on a 9 fight win streak to finally get his title shot against Kamaru Usman. Edwards is coming off an impressive performance against Nate Diaz, and Usman believes no one else deserves this title shot more than him.

Usman is currently out from action because of hand surgery, he is taking his time to recover, and Edwards was patiently waiting for his chance. Everything was going well for Leon, but an interesting call out from the biggest superstar of the sport changed the entire landscape of the welterweight division.

Former double champ, Conor McGregor is also recovering from a broken foot injury he sustained in his fight against Dustin Poirier, while many thought he’d come back and avenge his loss against Poirier, but Conor bulked up, and now he looking to get back in the welterweight division, he showed interest in fighting Usman for the belt, and even though nobody from the roster thinks he deserves this fight, Dana White, and Usman are more than ready to make this happen.

In another interesting turn of events, Chael Sonnen revealed that Leon has been offered a huge amount of money to step aside from his proposed fight against Usman, in his recent YouTube video, he said, “I am being told that Leon has been offered his show and his win [money], whatever was negotiated for Leon to fight Kamaru is being offered to him.

He added, “‘We will mail you a cheque to step aside. We have the right to push you aside, we don’t want any hard feelings and we acknowledge that you deserve this. So, we are going to send you what you agreed on and you get to stay home.’ With the belief being that Conor’s going to step in.”

“I don’t believe this rumour by the way, I’m just sharing with you anytime you don’t have something locked up… Leon is not done. There are some real moving parts there, quite frankly I don’t know if we are going to see Kamaru Usman fight in two years from now,” he concluded.
