Michael Bisping, Khabib Nurmagomedov and Georges St Pierre
The former UFC Lightweight champion, Khabib Nurmagomedov holds a professional record of 29-0 and he retired last year following his win against Justin Gaethje at UFC 254. Khabib is considered as the G.O.A.T of the Lightweight division but the debate to include him in the list of all-time great UFC champions is never-ending.
‘The Eagle’ holds victories over some of the biggest names in the Lightweight division such as Conor McGregor, Justin Gaethje, and Dustin Poirier. But the UFC Hall of Famer, Michael Bisping believes his resume isn’t that much impressive as compared to Georges St Pierre, Jon Jones, and Anderson Silva.
Talking to True Geordie on The Pain Game Podcast, Bisping says, “He took himself out of it, and if you look, yeah, he didn’t fight the best until the end of his career. When you compare that with GSP or Jones or Anderson, their run against world-class competition was far longer. But for Khabib, I know it was because of his father passing away, and he made a promise to his mother. So, it’s different circumstances.”
“But for those reasons, I think when you look at the resumes, even though he was undefeated, the resumes don’t really stack up. And I say that with tremendous respect to Khabib – Far being from me to downplay his career because I would never dream of doing that.” {h/t BJ Penn}
Ali Abdelaziz asked Bisping to not compare Khabib Nurmagomedov with Jon Jones
Jon Jones is considered one of the greatest UFC champions ever and he holds multiple records during his championship run. But Jones was stripped from his title and he also pleaded guilty for a failed dope test, which is why many people don’t include him in the G.O.A.T list.
Khabib Nurmagomedov’s manager and CEO of dominance MMA, Ali Abdelaziz also said the same thing to Michael Bisping with his tweet which says, “Bisping brother, you know that my whole team, myself have a tremendous amount of respect to you.”
“But no cheaters should be in a goat conversation especially in front of Khabib Nurmagomedov. Never been dropped, cut, hurt, barely lost a rounds Name me someone like him”.
